Ohio State Football Recruiting: The 10 Biggest Targets for 2013

Tim BielikJun 7, 2018

Ohio State may have wrapped up a fantastic recruiting class for 2012, but recruiting is a 24/7/365 business.

2013's class is already starting with 4-star commits including three of the top prospects in Ohio, CB Cameron Burrows, ATH Jalin Marshall and DT Billy Price.

Their class next year will be limited mostly because of scholarship reductions unless spring and fall camps force multiple transfers.

Whether it's limited or not, the Buckeyes are going to have a very strong class.

Here is a look at ten of the best targets on the board that Ohio State is going after for the 2013 class.

DE Joey Bosa

1 of 10

Noah Spence and Adolphus Washington are both fantastic prospects at DE, but you can't ever have too many good pass rushers.

That's where a player like Joey Bosa could fit in nicely.

The nephew of former Buckeye and first-round draft pick Eric Kumerow, Bosa is a power rusher with great strength. He finished 2011 with 18 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

He is an Alabama lean according to his high school coach, but will visit Ohio State for the Spring Game at the end of April.

It will be tough to pry him out of Florida, but his Buckeye connections could keep Ohio State in the race for quite a long time.

TE Adam Breneman

2 of 10

Ohio State is going to lose Jake Stoneburner to graduation, so they will be looking for a top-flight TE to fill his shoes.

Enter one of the top prospects from Pennsylvania—a state Ohio State has raided in the last several years—in Camp Hill's Adam Breneman.

Breneman has offers from almost every major program in the country because of his great ability as a receiving TE.

He ended his junior season with 1,120 yards on 72 receptions and 12 touchdowns.

Breneman will be visiting Ohio State on Monday, and could be the Aaron Hernandez type of player in Urban Meyer's spread option attack.

WR Robert Foster

3 of 10

Ohio State will try to continue their run of grabbing great prospects out of Pennsylvania.

The best of them may be one that is still raw, but presents amazing physical attributes including great speed: Robert Foster.

Foster is the type of player that can do almost anything and who you want to touch the ball about 15-20 times per game at the minimum.

He is an explosive athlete that is multi-dimensional and can be both a runner and a receiver. Foster likely projects as a receiver and the Buckeyes are among the leaders for his services at this time.

WR Shelton Gibson

4 of 10

After missing out on Stefon Diggs and backing off of Davonte Neal, the Buckeyes need some speedy playmakers on offense.

Jalin Marshall, a likely 5-star from Middletown, Ohio, is already in the fold and compares well to Percy Harvin.

Shelton Gibson is more of a pure receiver than Marshall, but is a dynamic player in his own right.

A teammate of current OSU signee Kyle Dodson, Gibson is a burner himself, running a 10.72 in the 100m.

He seems like a likely Buckeye commit, but Auburn is heavy on Gibson as well.

RB Derrick Green

5 of 10

Ohio State does not have a true feature back right now, but could go back to Virginia and land one of the most talented backs in the country in Derrick Green.

The high school teammate of Curtis Grant, Green is an explosive runner with fantastic speed to go with great size at just under 220 lbs.

Green's running style compares to former Alabama running back Mark Ingram because of his underrated power and his ability to run well between the tackles.

Green grew up a Buckeye fan and his connections with Grant could make Ohio State the team to beat, at least at this stage of the game.

OL Evan Lisle

6 of 10

The last time Ohio State reached to Centerville for an offensive lineman, they got Nick Mangold who turned out to be a very good lineman.

They recently gave an offer to another very good tackle in Evan Lisle.

Ohio State needs more quality offensive linemen and Lisle is an athletic lineman who could play either left or right tackle.

Lisle already has a great offer sheet that includes Alabama and Oklahoma. But he may be Ohio State's to lose at this moment.

LB Jaylon Smith

7 of 10

The brother of current Ohio State RB Rod Smith may be a more dynamic player than his older brother.

Smith is an explosive linebacker with great athleticism who also has offers from Alabama, Florida State and Notre Dame.

A commit from Smith would give Ohio State another incredible athlete at linebacker to go with 2012 signees Camren Williams and David Perkins.

However, it seems like in-state Notre Dame might actually have the edge over Ohio State at this time.

QB Mitch Trubisky

8 of 10

Ohio State will be looking for a quarterback to groom under Braxton Miller.

Meyer has cast a huge net for quarterbacks and one of his more recent offers was a little bit of a surprise as he gave Mentor QB Mitch Trubisky an offer.

Trubisky is the triggerman of a pass-happy spread attack of his own that usually employs five wideouts and where he is the main running option. And he is very good at what he does.

He is surprisingly athletic with a large amount of grit and toughness (Tebow, anyone?), but will need to cut down on the turnovers and fix his mechanics.

Lots of eyes in Columbus will be fixed on Trubisky as his Mentor Cardinals are among the favorites to win a state championship and his arm is the reason why.

RB David Williams

9 of 10

The third and final player on this list hailing from the Keystone State is just as explosive a gamebreaker as any in the country.

David Williams from Philly is simply a burner, using his excellent speed to make big plays out of the backfield.

He rushed for just under 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns as a junior which has earned him offers from Auburn, South Carolina and Notre Dame among others.

Wiliams could play in almost any offense in college, but told Rivals.com's Marc Givler that he was a childhood fan of Ohio State and a teammate of WR Corey Brown.

Those connections could help the Buckeyes at least earn an official visit from him in the fall.

QB Malik Zaire

10 of 10

The second major quarterback Ohio State is trying to land is almost a polar opposite of Mitch Trubisky and a left-handed version of Braxton Miller.

Kettering Alter's Malik Zaire is a dynamic dual-threat southpaw that is just as dangerous running the football as he is throwing it.

Zaire has been compared to Mike Vick because they are similar in size and have the ability to throw to multiple spots on the field.

He needs to work on his consistency throwing the ball as well as his mechanics.

But he will be able to sit behind Miller if he does come to Ohio State, which is among the leaders for his services at this time.
