Texas A&M Football: Updating Player Performances from the NFL Combine

Jim SullivanFeb 28, 2012

The Aggies had an exceptional senior class this past season full of some of the best players this school has ever seen. Six of these superb leaders decided to attempt to make football their career and were invited to the exclusive NFL Combine this February.

With the Combine ending just yesterday, we now can take a look at how each A&M participant fared against the nation's top recruits. With an Aggie taking reps at every aspect of the game, whether it be offense, defense or special teams, their spread of the field is most impressive.

Here are each young man's updated results from this year's NFL Combine.

Terrance Frederick

1 of 6

The senior cornerback out of Katy has done decently well so far. His 40-yard dash timed in at 4.54 seconds, ranking him in the middle of the pack on speed. In addition to that, his 16 reps on the bench press as well as his 35-inch vertical jump comes in just around the middle for all defensive backs.

Frederick has always been more of a zone player in defenses due to his lack of confidence in his speed. NFL franchises would be wise to not throw him directly into man-to-man situations.

Jeff Fuller

2 of 6

One of Texas A&M's most beloved wide outs, Fuller once again let injuries get the best of him. Due to an unforeseen hairline fracture in his foot, this giant receiver was only allowed to do bench press, coming in 13th among his position with 17 reps.

Jeff Fuller is one of the largest wide receivers at the combine. He has a huge frame and the potential to really end up as one of the best options for NFL quarterbacks. Despite his inability to work out at the Combine, Fuller should still easily make his way into a great spot at the NFL draft.

Randy Bullock

3 of 6

The reigning Lou Groza Award winner will be a true player to watch this draft, but has certainly flown under the radar at this year's Combine. There isn't much a kicker can really show off at a Combine due to the one skill that a placekicker needs, a good leg, can't really be measured by a 40-yard dash or some bench press.

Instead, the young man weighed in and did some interviews, hoping to gain some steam so that he is drafted come late April. Bullock showcased how solid a kicker he was during his career for the Aggies, making him a sturdy choice in the special teams game.

Cyrus Gray

4 of 6

One of the most consistent running backs for A&M in their history, Cyrus Gray has really made some noise at this year's draft. The somewhat small back finished fifth at his position in the 40-yard dash with a 4.47, at one point even leading. He also placed eighth in bench press, putting up a strong 21 reps.

Gray is a quick, agile RB with a ton of speed. Unfortunately, NFL scouts will see his size as a weakness and won't envision him to be an "every-down" kind of back. Instead, Gray will most likely be picked up by a franchise that needs a boost to their passing game out of the back field or just some pure speed to add to their weaponry.

Coryell Judie

5 of 6

Despite his injuries over the course of his career, this scrappy DB has been a force at the Combine. One of the Aggies' all-time fastest cornerbacks, Judie put in a 4.48 time in the dash, seventh best among his position. He also ranked sixth in his overall vertical jump, hitting 36.0 inches.

The NFL loves speed. This corner has a ton of it and is completely comfortable in any man-on-man situation. While he may not be the next Darrelle Revis, Coryell Judie can cover the best of the league and should be a solid choice by any of the franchises in this year's draft.

Ryan Tannehill

6 of 6

Disappointingly, A&M's star QB wasn't able to compete in the Combine. His foot injury has sidelined him for the entirety of the four-day event.

Tannehill sustained a broken foot just before the Senior Game. He will still end up one of the highest ranked quarterbacks in the draft, but would have liked to have shown off his skills at the NFL Combine. Sitting just behind the likes of Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, Tannehill has all the makings of an NFL future starter.
