15 Things World Football Would Be Better off Without

Mikhail TurnerFeb 17, 2012

What would World Football be better off without?

Fans the world over would certainly all have their own unique opinions for what they would like to see gone from the game.

Some issues might actually be a common concern for the majority of worldwide fans.

Here are 15 things World Football would be better off without.

Diving

1 of 15

It's annoying in any sport when players try to one-up their opponents through some form of cheating., and diving falls into that category in World Football.

The referees have a hard enough job as it is without such conniving actions.

"Parking the Bus"

I'm sure more fans would rather see goals than stifling defensive displays.

Teams can put a lot of pressure on the opposition by defending and harassing from the front, as we've seen time and again.

The most exciting games are usually the ones with more goals, so that's a no-brainer.

Extravagant Transfer Fees

The days of absurdly high transfer fees may be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

Financial Fair Play will soon come into effect and, if the January transfer window is any indication, teams will be a lot more prudent in the future.

Sepp Blatter

4 of 15

I'm not really trying to attack Sepp Blatter here, but I'll just say this; if Sepp Blatter gets anywhere near the tenures of Jules Rimet (33 years) and Joao Havelange (24 years), we may be in trouble.

Considering the controversies that have followed him throughout his FIFA tenure—and especially recently—it is time for a change.

Bookings for Celebrations

5 of 15

A celebration probably wasn't the cause for the yellow card in this photo, but we all know I'm talking about.

Is it really necessary to punish someone for celebrating a goal, especially if that goal is important and/or fantastic in some way?

Taking off one's shirt really shouldn't be cause for a yellow card.

Crazy Ticket Prices

6 of 15

I guess this happens for any sport. But should going out to a game become a special treat just because of the cost, and not because of the football? I don't think so.

If tickets were cheaper, wouldn't there be more demand for said tickets?

Players Calling for Yellow Cards

7 of 15

Again, this is another annoying aspect of the game that doesn't make the referee's life any easier.

Players should leave the officiating to the officials and get on with the game.

Corrupt Executives

8 of 15

This goes on across the board, from refereeing associations through to FIFA.

For whatever reason, no matter the sport, the guys that run things always want to get ahead. A lot of the time, they try to do go about it in illegitimate ways.

"The Beautiful Game" should be that way from top to bottom.

Fan Riots

9 of 15

Riots have come and gone through the history of the game.

No sport would like to be associated with events such as those in Egypt,  where more than 70 people were killed post-match.

Shoddy Refeereing

10 of 15

As much as referees' jobs are made difficult by players and managers, they can make some pretty bad mistakes themselves sometimes.

The continued use of goal-line technology and touchline assistants will help curb a good number of those mistakes.

WAG Marketing

11 of 15

Basically, we don't really need to know what Steven Gerrard's wife is doing.

Some WAGs—and the fact that we actually have a term for them is interesting in itself—have their own businesses or other exploits, and that's fine. We still don't need to know.

There should be football, and football alone.

Match-Fixing Scandals

12 of 15

There have been the Calciopoli scandal, Korea's recent match-fixing scandal and many others. These types of things need to stop for the integrity of the game we all love.

If people like Luciano Moggi had put forth more effort to winning fairly rather than through unfair deeds, the world of football would be better off.

Racism

13 of 15

The world as a whole would be better off without this.

The recent incidents involving John Terry and Luis Suarez have definitely put a damper on football in England in recent months.

In stadiums across Europe, players deal with constant racial abuse and, despite all the efforts, there seems there is not much progress being made.

Player Scandals

14 of 15

This is a bit of a result of the WAG culture. Players' social exploits, especially those concerning females, are watched a lot more closely than in previous times.

That—and the stupidity of said players—leads to a lot of scandals that really shouldn't have occurred in the first place.

August International Friendlies

15 of 15

The August International friendlies are the worst. The top players already play a great number of games throughout the season and they don't need meaningless games halting their preparations.

Some of these friendlies result in lengthy injuries to key players for club and country. FIFA needs to find some balance with their friendly dates and club schedules.
