WrestleMania 28: Grading the Top Moments from WWE WrestleMania X

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

With WrestleMania 28 just over one month away, we want to take a look back at the events of the last 27 years that have made this WWE's signature show and one of the biggest days of the year for professional wrestling fans.

We are going to put WrestleMania X under the microscope today and countdown our favorite moments from the show. It took place in Madison Square Garden and is best remembered for the Shawn Michaels-Razor Ramon Ladder Match.

While this was not the best show overall, there were plenty of great singular moments that make it one of the most memorable in WWE history.

Here are the top moments from WrestleMania X.

4. RANDY SAVAGE LEAVES CRUSH ALL TIED UP

The late, great "Macho Man" Randy Savage would end his WWE wrestling career in a strange Falls Count Anywhere Match against Crush.

The rules should be self-explanatory, but this was when the company was trying all sorts of wacky gimmicks that ended up failing. To win, you had to pin your opponent then keep them out of the ring for 60 seconds. Huh?

Savage found a way around this by tying Crush upside-down on a scaffold. He then walked back to the ring to beat up on Mr. Fuji before being declared the winner. R.I.P. Macho Man.

3. YOKOZUNA HAS FALLEN AND HE CAN'T GET UP

When 1994 started, it was supposed to be Lex Luger's big break. He was going to get the big push and be the next big star, in the mold of Hulk Hogan. Things did not work out for him because he couldn't work, nor did he have enough charisma on the microphone to get over.

Instead, the company did a reverse course by having him and Bret Hart as co-winners of the Royal Rumble. Both were given title shots against Yokozuna at WrestleMania.

Luger's match ended via disqualification, but in the main event Hart would walk away with the championship.

It ended when Yokozuna climbed the ropes for the banzai drop, lost his balance and fell, allowing Hart to cover him for the pin. Not the most innovative or memorable finish, but it did lead to the great SummerSlam steel cage match for the title between Bret and Owen Hart.

2. SHAWN MICHAELS WITH THE SPLASH HEARD 'ROUND THE WORLD

We can talk about Razor Ramon's presence in the Ladder Match for the intercontinental title—yeah, that belt used to be a big deal—but this match was all about Shawn Michaels.

I don't recall who it was, possibly Triple H, but someone said that Michaels just went out and had a wrestling match with a ladder. That is the best possible way to describe what the Heartbreak Kid was able to do.

By today's standards, the match looks pretty tame. There were no outrageous spots or wrestlers going through tables. That is not a knock on it either, it was a great match that proves less can be more.

The most memorable part of the match came when Michaels climbed a ladder and did the Jimmy Snuka splash on a lifeless Razor.

That highlight gets shown every year around WrestleMania season because it is one of those historic spots that no one will ever forget.

1. HE AIN'T HEAVY, HE'S MY BROTHER

Truth be told, you could put the top two moments in either order and there would be no argument. The Michaels' spot gets played so much that everyone knows it.

However, the opening match on the show was the Brother vs. Brother showdown between Bret and Owen Hart and was actually a bigger deal in the scheme of things because it made Owen a superstar.

The feud started at the Survivor Series when Owen was the only Hart brother eliminated from their tag match. He had been baiting Bret for a match for months before finally getting his wish at WrestleMania.

These two set the standard for this show with a brilliant back and forth battle, and it was unquestionably the best opening match in WWE history. It ended with Owen blocking Bret's victory roll. Just like that, a career was made.

Interesting tidbit: WWE officials wanted Bruce Hart to feud with Bret, but the Hitman lobbied for Owen because he knew that he could make the match work.
