WWE: 12 Dream Opponents to Face Daniel Bryan
He seems to be the company's biggest opportunist right now. But maybe the best title for World Title holder Daniel Bryan is the "luckiest sob in the WWE."
Bryan's character is a curious case of "on-again, off-again" drama. And it always seems to involve him and wrestlers who are much larger, stronger and powerful than he is.
Guess the David and Goliath theme is alive and well in the WWE.
Bryan is such a good performer and if the match two weeks ago with CM Punk is any indication of his brilliance, then there are many current and former wrestlers who would be "dream" opponents for the great mat technician.
Here are some wrestlers who would and could give Bryan one hell of a match and a possible long-time feud.
CM Punk
1 of 12A few weeks ago, we saw what was arguably the best wrestling match of the past five years.
Two great wrestlers with a history serving up one great match, only to have it interrupted.
And it was a great angle with a bad ending.
These two men, equal in stature and what appears to be ability, should do it again for the fans' sake.
What a great match. It was Flair and Steamboat all over again.
Bret Hart
2 of 12Michael Cole posed the question during the CM Punk-Bryan match of how Bryan would do against Bret Hart, which brought about this slideshow.
The Best There Ever Will Be taking on Bryan. Hart was a little more aggressive. He was also a multiple title winner in the WWF and one of the most liked of all time.
I am not a Hart fan, but I see his greatness and his ability to work in any situation.
He is one of the best of all time.
Kevin Von Erich
3 of 12This is one I would have liked to have seen.
Von Erich was the oldest of the Von Erich brothers and maybe the most underrated. The barefoot brother and former American Heavyweight Champion was elusive and quicker than people gave him credit for.
He is the only surviving brother after years of turmoil and death in the family. In his prime, he was one of the best mat wrestlers in the business.
Kurt Angle
4 of 12At 43 years old, Angle is still doing it better than most 25-year-olds.
Could the Olympian and greatest technician of all time give Bryan a great match? It would be so amazing to see.
The thing about Angle is his ability to ground someone fast and then use his raw power and strength to hurt someone or wear them down.
Shelton Benjamin
5 of 12This one has happened before and can happen again. Benjamin was the best wrestler in the WWE of the modern era to never hold a world title.
He could have been the best of all time.
Benjamin could mat wrestle and brawl if need be, and he could provide the uneven match that could keep Bryan off his toes.
Chris Benoit
6 of 12Once we saw Bryan on a regular basis, this is the match we have all thought of.
Two wolverines battling it out to see who was the lead dog.
Both bulldogs would tear it up and not back down and really give the fans a show. Think of what an "ironman" match would be between the two of them.
Eddie Guerrero
7 of 12Another one of those matches we talk about with the knowledge it will never happen.
Guerrero was an amazing talent and loved as heel or hero.
He truly believed in the motto of "lie, cheat and steal" to get what he wanted to get far in the WWE.
And whether on the mat or in the air, he was truly a dynamo.
Pedro Morales
8 of 12A former WWF world champion faces another WWE champion.
Can the two make magic in the ring?
Morales was one of the more popular wrestlers in the 1970s and early 1980s and was a friend and foe of Bruno Sammartino.
He was burly and a brawler, but he was also a great mat wrestler.
Jack Brisco
9 of 12He is known as one of the greatest mat wrestlers ever and was a former NWA World Title holder. There may not have been a better wrestler in the late 1970s and early 1980s than Jack Brisco.
Would Brisco's "vanilla" style be a bother for Bryan and his unorthodox style of today?
I personally think the former title holder was the best "amateur" wrestler to ever lace up boots.
Shawn Michaels
10 of 12The forbidden fruit?
This would be epic. Mr. WrestleMania would rock the house, and Bryan would sell for him like many before.
Could Michaels do the same thing?
This could be a ballet much like Ric Flair and Ricky Morton.
Chris Jericho
11 of 12I think Chris Jericho is the Roddy Piper of this generation. That said, he is a better wrestler than Piper and just as good on the mic.
What I like about this matchup is the versatility of the both of them. Jericho can move to the mat and is also more agile than we think.
Because they are both submission specialists, it will be interesting to see who balks first.
Dean Malenko
12 of 12The Man of 1,000 Holds. Malenko is one of the most underrated wrestlers in history. A true mat technician, he and Bryan would have an epic battle.
Could this be the feud of the century? Maybe. It is underrated and many may not have thought of it, but look at both them, and their talents, and you decide whether or not it would be a great clash.
