WWE Elimination Chamber: Why Chris Jericho Will Win the Raw Event

Alex HallJun 5, 2018

Since Chris Jericho gave CM Punk that codebreaker a few weeks ago, and on the heels of Y2J's name being part of the upcoming Raw elimination chamber, fans have been wondering how this story will play out on Sunday.

This is Jericho's last shot to obtain the title before Wrestlemania. If he wins the Raw elimination chamber match, Punk will obviously look for his rematch at the pay-per-view in Miami, FL.

Jericho will win the match this Sunday, as it is the best way to build a believable tension between the two wrestlers.

The straight-edge Punk and his Canadian adversary will work wonders with each other no matter what happens this weekend, but a Jericho victory would create the most heat. Then Y2J can brag about how he took a year off from the wrestling business and was back on top just months after returning.

While this would bring down the hype a bit on Punk's character, like we've seen with Randy Orton in recent months, losing doesn't always result in a wrestler cooling off with fans. Punk's fanbase is stable enough nowadays that he can afford to lose the title at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view.

Jericho, on the other hand, is someone who hasn't competed all that much since returning. A victory this weekend will further the push he's been receiving, as well as giving him some leverage to use against Punk when the two cut the promos we're all anxiously awaiting to see.

It seems their storyline will focus around who truly deserves the "Best in the World" moniker that both have used in recent years. Having Punk retain the title at Elimination Chamber hurts the progression of the feud.

Jericho has his past accomplishments to brag about, but going into 'Mania without a victory over the WWE Champion—or anybody really, for that matter—doesn't exactly build the hype this main event deserves.

Both superstars are easily in the conversation for best talent on the WWE roster, and the company's creative team needs to give Y2J some victories around which he can base all his claims of being the best.

When Punk started using the "Best in the World" idea, I think a light bulb went off in a lot of fans' heads and people began to think "What if" about a Jericho and Punk feud. Now that Y2J has laced up his wrestling boots again (for however long that is), the fans are getting to see the storyline they've been thinking about for the past several months.

Jericho needs to win the Raw Elimination Chamber match if this feud is going to live up to the expectations of the WWE Universe, and there's no reason he won't have his hand raised by the end of Sunday night.
