Cloud vs. Campillo: Preview, Start Time, Live Streaming and Schedule

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Tavoris Cloud was noticeably frustrated when Zsolt Erdei pulled out of their Dec. 31 fight, citing an injured hand.

Now he'll be able to unleash his frustrations on Spain's Gabriel Campillo.

Cloud (24-0, 19 KOs) will be looking for his fourth title defense against Campillo. Campillo (21-3-1, 8 KOs) lost his version of the 175-pound title to Beibut Shumenov in a rematch in January 2010 in Las Vegas. The split decision loss was widely contested, many believing Campillo won the fight.

Fight Card

Light heavyweight bout: Tavoris Cloud vs. Gabriel Campillo

Junior middleweight bout: Paul Williams vs. Nubuhiro Ishida

Heavyweight bout: Chris Arreola vs. Eric Molina

Tavoris Cloud's Keys to Victory

Cloud is clearly the superior fighter in this bout, but he can't get lazy out there. Campillo, a former WBA World light heavyweight champion, definitely has skills, and he's actually a tougher matchup than Erdei would have been because he has a better overall skill set.

Cloud, as we all know, likes to go for the knockout. He's made it clear that he wants to give boxing fans what they want and not allow fights go to a decision. He does need to be careful, however. Campillo is no slouch.

Also, the fact that Campillo is a southpaw may give him problems.

Gabriel Campillo's Keys to Victory

The first thing Campillo needs to do is defend. Against a knockout artist like Cloud, you have to be able to defend well or your night is going to be over quickly.

Campillo needs to counter-punch effectively. He's not as strong as Cloud, and Cloud is three years younger. If he doesn't want this fight to get out of hand, he has to capitalize on his opportunities and not open himself up to big punches.

What They're Saying

Campillo said before the fight, via the Corpus Christi Caller:

"

"I'm going to win the fight because of three things. I'm in better physical condition than him. I have better speed and I have more intelligence. I'm very confident for this fight and I can't wait to get to Corpus Christi."

"

Cloud countered, via BoxingScene.com:

"

"I don't have a problem with fighting southpaws. The result will be the same. I'll be victorious and keep my title in the end. I have the best (team) in the world to get me ready. I don't care how hard they train, who their trainer is or the sacrifices they've made. I feel like I trained harder, that my trainer is better than them."

"

Main Event Prediction: Cloud Via Knockout

One of the reasons why Cloud hasn't gotten a lot of attention is because he hasn't fought much in recent years. He fought once in 2011 against Yusaf Mack (an eighth-round TKO) and only four times in the last two-and-a-half years.

But Cloud is legit. He has the power and skills to work his way up the light heavyweight ladder. Campillo will put up a fight, but will eventually be Cloud's latest knockout victim.
