AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am: Top 10 Highlights

Jason ClarkFeb 13, 2012

Phil Mickelson walked away with the trophy and the winner's check at the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, but how did his best shots compare to those of the rest of the field?

Big-name golfers like Tiger Woods and Geoff Ogilvy made some fantastic shots, as did more under-the-radar golfers like Stephen Bowditch.

But who had the top shot from the weekend? Click on to find out.

10. Phil Mickelson's Big Putts

1 of 10

Phil Mickelson needed two big par saves to finish his final round bogey-free and win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Mickelson drained a 30-footer and a 38-footer to keep momentum going in a round in which he would shoot 64, making up a six-shot deficit to take his first victory since last April.

9. Tiger Woods Gets a Lucky Bounce

2 of 10

Tiger Woods found himself in a lot of bunkers over the weekend, which had a lot to do with his final-round 75. But on Saturday, Woods launched a shot from the fairway bunker at 13 that found the rough on the right side and took a favorable bounce before landing on the green and stopping just feet from the hole.

It was one of many great shots that allowed Woods to post a 67 and head into Sunday within striking distance of then-leader Charlie Wi.

8. Charlie Wi Creates Some Excitement on the Final Hole

3 of 10

Charlie Wi was the leader coming into Sunday, but a four-putt double bogey on the first hole proved to be the difference, as he finished two strokes behind Phil Mickelson.

By the time Wi lined up to take his third shot on the 18th, it was a foregone conclusion that Mickelson had won the tournament. But in an effort to remain a solo second, Wi took a wedge and put the ball right next to the hole. He would finish his round and his weekend with a birdie and take home a triple-figure paycheck.

7. Geoff Ogilvy Makes Eagle at the 18th

4 of 10

Geoff Ogilvy finished the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in the middle of the pack with a respectable six-under-par, and this sequence of shots on the par-five 18th hole certainly helped.

More than 200 yards away from the 18th green, Ogilvy landed his second shot safely and rolled it within eight feet of the cup. He would go on to make eagle and finish his round at 69.

6. Tiger Woods Covers the Flag in Round 1

5 of 10

Tiger Woods started the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the back nine at Spyglass Hill, and was off to a quick start with this approach shot on his first hole.

Woods took a kick off the fringe and wrapped the ball around the hole, setting up an easy birdie putt to begin his weekend. It was one of six birdies he would make on the day.

5. Tiger Woods Gives a Clinic on Approach Shots

6 of 10

Tiger Woods hit his fairways and his greens at Monterey Peninsula on Friday. He struggled with his putter, but shots like his second at the 12th made it considerably easier to make birdies.

That's what Tiger would go on to do, as he would finish the day with four birdies to go along with two bogeys and a score of 68.

4. Phil Mickelson Gets It Within Two Feet

7 of 10

On the eighth hole in Round 3, Phil Mickelson hit a huge draw over the cliffs and played the slope perfectly to get his ball within two feet of the cup.

It was undoubtedly the highlight of a rather pedestrian day for Mickelson, who wound up shooting 70 and moving into decent position going into the final round.

3. Tiger Woods Holes It from the Bunker

8 of 10

Tiger Woods will remember this tournament for his collapse on Sunday after being within a stroke of the lead, but he did have one bright spot.

Fading out of contention at nine-under-par and five back of Phil Mickelson, Woods hit his tee shot into the sand at the par-three 12th. But his signature short game came through for him, as he holed a 38-foot bunker shot and made birdie to go 10-under and get back into the race.

Woods would bogey two of his next three holes, however, and he finished the tournament tied for 15th.

2. Stephen Bowditch Eagles 15

9 of 10

The top shot of Round 3, Stephen Bowditch's second shot on the 15th gave him a chance to play on Sunday, where he would shoot a final-round 68 and finish tied for 15th.

Bowditch took a wedge from the right side of the 15th fairway and found the center of the green, where the ball would trickle down the slope and into the hole. It was a particularly exciting moment for his partner, Ray Romano, who after playing the Pebble Beach Pro-Am a dozen times, finally made his first cut this year.

1. Ken Duke Holes out from 140 Yards

10 of 10

Ken Duke finished the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tied for seventh, but it was the way he started it that earns him top-shot honors for the weekend.

Playing the Pebble Beach course, Duke holed a 140-yard approach shot on the 16th and walked away with an eagle. Duke's celebration provided the little something extra needed to have the edge over Bowditch's shot, which was equally impressive.

It would be the highlight of an opening-round 64 that set up a successful tournament for Duke and his amateur partner, comedian Tom Dreesen.
