TNA Against All Odds Predictions: 4 Title Matches, Styles vs. Kaz and More
TNA Wrestling presents Against All Odds, live on pay-per-view tonight.
2012 has been a great year so far for TNA. Impact Wrestling has bested Raw and SmackDown on more than one occasion, Genesis was a good PPV and the wrestling has been great.
If the year so far is any indication, TNA fans could be in for a great show tonight.
Scheduled for the event are seven matches. Fans will be seeing four of the company’s six titles on the lines as the Knockouts, tag-team, X-Division and world heavyweight champions defend their belts.
Fans will also see A.J. Styles take on Kazarian, a No. 1 contender’s match and a match no one really cares about.
Here are the matches and who I think will come out on top!
Garret Bischoff with Hulk Hogan vs. Gunner with Eric Bischoff
1 of 7Ever since Garett defied his father Eric Bischoff at the Bound for Glory PPV in October, the fans have seen the father and son go at it.
Eric, of course, wouldn’t do any of the dirty work himself, though. He gave the marching orders to Gunner.
Garett would defeat Gunner three times but after the third victory, poppa Bischoff finally got what he wanted.
Post-match, Gunner delivered a piledriver to Garett onto the concrete floor. Eric Bischoff had won and it looked like his son may never come back.
After a month’s absence, Garett returned to TNA and general manager Sting welcomed him to the roster as a full-time wrestler.
Garett then started to train with someone who he said would “blow his father’s mind.” Last week, Garett’s trainer was revealed to be the Immortal Hulk Hogan.
The Hulkster then proceeded to beat up Gunner and threaten his former partner Eric.
This past Thursday, Sting gave Hogan the power to book this match and by the end of the segment, Hogan and Garret were once again standing tall.
This feud has really been a waste of television time most weeks. It has a lot of fans shaking their heads and they want it to end.
Will it end here? I highly doubt it, but I think the winner of this is pretty obvious.
Winner: Garret Bischoff
Jesse Sorenson vs. Zema Ion: No. 1 Contender’s Match
2 of 7The X-Division will get showcased twice tonight. Not only will the title be on the line, but the fans will find out who will be the No. 1 contender for Victory Road or possibly even an episode of Impact Wrestling.
Both Jesse Sorenson and Zema Ion have been impressing fans since their debuts, but no one more than Ion.
While Sorenson has had more exposure when he challenged Austin Aries for the X-Division Championship, Ion’s in-ring skill and charisma stood out.
Fans really took notice of Ion in the best-of-three series of matches with Anthony Nese. Ion won the series and was entered into a fatal four-way match for the title at Genesis.
Sorenson isn’t without impressing fans, though, as he has had victories over veteran Kid Kash and the champion Aries in a non-title match.
Both of these wrestlers are great in the ring and are without a doubt the future of the X-Division.
As for the winner, I have to give it to Zema Ion. While both are equally as good in the ring, Ion has quite a bit more charisma than Jesse Sorenson and would make a better challenger.
Winner and No. 1 Contender: Zema Ion
A.J. Styles vs. Kazarian
3 of 7During the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament, the team of A.J. Styles and Kazarian were definitely the favorite to win. They were the only team that had actually worked together before, and everyone thought that they’d go all the way.
Something happened, though, and they lost.
Kazarian walked out on Styles, causing the Phenomenal one to be defeated by Samoa Joe and Magnus.
Before the match, Kazarian was seen backstage talking to Styles’ on-again, off-again archenemy, Christopher Daniels.
Towards the end of the match, Daniels walked to ringside and ordered Kazarian to follow him out.
While Kazarian has clearly been reluctant to follow the orders of Daniels, the Fallen Angel has some sort of hold over him.
Since he walked out, both Daniels and Kazarian have attacked Styles during in-ring promos and during matches costing Styles a victory.
This past Thursday, Styles and Daniels went one-on-one for the 100th time, and Daniels picked up the victory after Kaz reluctantly gave the Fallen Angel some sort of brass knuckles.
I am very intrigued about why Daniels has control over Kazarian. I really want to know, but I highly doubt we’ll find out tonight.
This will be a great match and Kazarian will be picking up the victory with some unwanted help from Christopher Daniels.
Winner: Kazarian
Gail Kim vs. Tara: Knockouts Championship
4 of 7Tara has been out of the Knockouts Championship scene for over a year now. She last held the title for one day in October 2010.
Since then she has competed mostly in tag-team matches as T.N.T. with Brooke Tessmacher.
A couple of weeks ago, though, that all changed when she bested Velvet Sky and Mickie James in a triple threat match to gain the right to challenge the champion Gail Kim.
Gail has had the title since November and while she has been able to keep it for three months, her reign as champion has been boring.
I think that’s mainly because she feuded with Mickie James the whole time.
Now Gail has a new challenger, though, and as Jim Ross would say, business could pick up.
Last week, these two women went on-on-one in a non-title match and Tara managed to take down the champion, proving that she can still go as a singles competitor.
This past Thursday, though, Gail attacked Tara outside the arena and left her down and out.
These two wrestlers know each other very well in the ring, and that should produce a great match.
I expect Madison Rayne to get involved and either Mickie James or Velvet Sky to come out to counter her.
While I would love to see Tara win the title, I just don’t see it happening.
Winner and Still Champion: Gail Kim
Matt Morgan and Crimson vs. Samoa Joe and Magnus: Tag Team Championship
5 of 7When the team of Matt Morgan and Crimson was formed, I was hoping that TNA’s once great tag-team division was going to be on its way to greatness once again.
I then realized that Morgan and Crimson had no competition.
TNA then created the Wild Card Tag Team Tournament to bring forth challengers for the titles. With some very interesting pairings, Samoa Joe and Magnus proved to be the superior pair and won the right to challenge the champions.
Throughout the tournament, Joe and Magnus showed that they really had chemistry as a team and could be tough opponents for the champions.
They gave Morgan and Crimson a run for their money, but the champions ultimately retained.
Joe and Magnus weren’t going to go down quietly, though.
For the next month, the Samoan Submission Machine and the British superstar have been taking out the champions and leaving them down and out.
Last week, they even defeated the champs in a non-title Buckingham Brawl.
Morgan and Crimson finally gained some momentum this past Thursday when they brawled with their challengers, causing them to run away.
Can this one night of dominance make up for a month of being one-upped by their challengers?
I don’t think so.
Samoa Joe and Magnus have proven to be a better team than Matt Morgan and Crimson will ever be.
We’ll be seeing new champions here!
Winners and New Champions: Samoa Joe and Magnus
Austin Aries vs. Alex Shelley: X-Division Championship
6 of 7Austin Aries has been the X-Division champion since September and he has been running through the division, defeating everyone who has gotten in his way.
Aries has become the best X-Division star that the division has seen since Jay Lethal was released, and he may be the best TNA has seen in quite some time.
Is there anyone that could stop A Double? A returning star is certainly going to try.
Alex Shelley returned to TNA a few weeks ago and was sick of Aries’ arrogant attitude. He wanted the title shot and he earned it when he defeated Zema Ion the following week.
The two wrestlers haven’t really had any interaction until this past Thursday.
From London, Austin Aries and Alex Shelley competed in a triple threat match that also featured Douglas Williams. Shelley ended up pinning Aries in a very good match and it was a nice little preview to what this match could be.
I have no doubt in my mind that A Double and the Motor City Machine Gun will be stealing the show tonight.
As for the winner, I just don’t see Alex Shelley winning the title. This will go to Austin Aries!
Winner and Still Champion: Austin Aries
Bobby Roode vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Bully Ray vs. James Storm: World Championship
7 of 7Since Bobby Roode won the TNA World Championship at the end of October, he has been a major thorn in the side of TNA management.
He has spit in the face of TNA President Dixie Carter; defied general manager Sting’s every order and punishment, and has weaseled his way out of most of his title defenses.
No one has been screwed more, though, than both Jeff Hardy and James Storm.
Since Genesis, Roode has cheated to retain his title two times against the Charismatic Enigma. When Storm earned a title shot when he defeated Kurt Angle, Roode declared it null and void when his match with Hardy ended in a no-contest.
Even during a No. 1 contender’s match between Hardy and Storm, they were both screwed thanks to Roode.
The champion’s calf-loving sidekick Bully Ray caused the match to end in a no-contest, thus giving Roode no challenger for this PPV.
Two weeks ago, Roode and Bully Ray lost a tables match to Hardy and Storm, but they got the last laugh when they beat down the faces and powerbombed Hardy through a table.
Tension between the heels began last week when Bully Ray helped Roode in victory, but Roode didn’t help Bully Ray get the win in his match.
This past Thursday, the two heels took on Sting and Storm, and the bully walked out on the champion, forcing him to tap out to the Scorpion Death Lock.
With Bully Ray now concentrating on the title match instead of his calves, he very well could be a threat in this match.
The only one I don’t see winning this is James Storm, mainly because I think TNA is waiting for the big Roode/Storm one-on-one match to put the title back on him.
Both Hardy and Bully Ray have a good chance in winning this.
I can see Hardy winning so that TNA can complete his “Cinderella story” of coming back from hitting rock bottom and I can see Bully Ray winning because it will turn a lot of heads.
At the same time, Bobby Roode is on a roll and taking the title off of him now could be a mistake.
It’s a hard choice, but I’m giving it to the reigning champion.
Winner and Still Champion: Bobby Roode
