Betting Line
Duke (-16), according to Betonline.
The easiest answer is to avoid this bet. Duke is the better team, but that is a big number and they have been a little inconsistent, even in front of the Cameron Crazies.
Still, the Blue Devils beat Maryland by 13 on the road earlier in the year and Cameron is worth the three points. Go with Duke to get the win and cover.
Key Injuries
Per USA Today.
Neither team has any injuries to report for Saturday's game.
What's At Stake?
ESPN's Joe Lunardi currently has Maryland out of the NCAA Tournament. A big win over Duke is needed, as Maryland has to significantly bolster its resume to make the tournament.
Duke is tied atop the ACC standings with Florida State and North Carolina. They have already lost at home to Florida State, but have beaten North Carolina on the road. They will need to keep winning to get a top seed in the ACC tournament.
Lunardi also has Duke projected as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Any chance of them getting a No. 1 would be significantly hurt with a loss.
What They're Saying
Liz Clarke of the Washington Post wrote that the resurgent play of Alex Len is giving Maryland reason to believe that the future is bright:
""Two games in a college basketball season hardly signify a trend. But as Maryland looks for positives amid a spate of recent losses, the resurgence of 7-foot-1 center Alex Len offers reason to believe...After a six-game streak in which the freshman was reduced to a footnote, failing to score more than five points in an outing, Len has bounced back impressively."
"
Tim Crothers of The News Observer feels that a change of attitude led to Austin Rivers making the game-winning shot against North Carolina, implying that it will serve Rivers well in the future.
""It was clear that the Austin Rivers answering questions on this night after he'd scored 29 points, including six cold-blooded threes, was a different Austin Rivers, a more serene version of the headstrong kid who was previously seen barreling wildly through the first few months of the season. Gone was the chest thumping. Gone was the strut. Gone were the inflammatory quotes. Gone was all of the bravado. Rivers had humbled himself. This Rivers was a wide-eyed teenager who couldn't really believe what he'd just done."
"
Most Important Player to Watch
Duke F Ryan Kelly. Austin Rivers and Seth Curry won't be stopped, but if Maryland can contain Kelly and his outside shooting, they have a chance at the upset. If Kelly does shoot well, this one will get ugly.
Key Matchup
Alex Len vs. Mason Plumlee. Len is a big man, standing 7'1". If he has a good game, the 6'10" Plumlee will have a hard time competing.
Prediction: Duke 79, Maryland 60
Maryland just doesn't have the guns to play with Duke. The home crowd and Mike Krzyzewski won't allow for the Blue Devils to be let down after the stunning win against North Carolina. They will cruise to an easy win.
