Point/Counterpoint: Is Against All Odds a PPV Worth Watching?

John ReidJun 2, 2018

Hello, Dungeonites.

It's John and my good friend Ryder (real name withheld for so his creditors can't find him) here, with a special edition of Point/Counterpoint:

For the past two weeks, we've seen TNA put on some of its best programming of 2012, with their tour of England (NOT the UK, as Magnus so bluntly stated last night on Impact.)

The crowd has been electric, which will hopefully encourage TNA to travel outside the dreadful Impact Zone more this year, and the story lines have been engaging.  This Sunday, TNA is headed to its second PPV in Against All Odds.

The main event features World Champion Bobby Roode defending his title against Jeff Hardy, Bully Ray and James Storm.

We saw great wrestling and a solid go-home show on Impact last night. That being said, is this a PPV that is worth watching as we head into Sunday?

So my boy, Ryder, and I are going to debate it in Point/Counterpoint. You can vote in the poll and let us know your thoughts.

POINT by John:

Going into this PPV, one of the big questions was whether or not we would ever see Bully Ray get a championship title shot.

Although I think he's better suited for the secondary championship (that is, if TNA still remembers they have one in the TV title), his work on the mic and in the ring has been great since they broke up Team 3D last year.

Despite losing to Abyss in the Monster's Ball last month, he continues to bring it week in and week out. It will be great to see him going for the belt in the main event.

I was wondering whether or not he and Roode would be on the same page. However, he showed his true colors last night, when he left Roode to fall victim to the Insane Icon Sting's Scorpion Deathlock.

Also, we haven't seen Jeff Hardy wrestle since he was lying on a broken table at the hands of Roode/Ray. It will be interesting to see how much of an X-factor he'll be in this match.

Finally, James Storm has been on fire since his feud with Roode began in November.  Anything that gives him screen time is a plus. I pray to all that is holy that he'll bring back the BOOZER CRUISER!

UPDATE: Sting will be the special enforcer for the match. It will be interesting to see if he will integrate himself into the match as well.

Question for you: since Sting made Roode submit, do you think that he might want a shot at the belt?

Inquiring minds want to know...

Another match we will be anticipating is the Samoa Joe/Magnus combo going again for the Tag Team titles against Crimson/Matt Morgan.

Let's face it. TNA needed a Tag Team title feud since the Motor City Machine Guns went down and Beer Money broke up. This fits the bill.

Joe and Magnus have been on fire in their promos and in the ring with a new motivation. Is there anyone out there who really wants to see the SkyScrapers 2012 Edition hold on to the belts for another day?

I don't think Crimson's undefeated streak is that important anymore. I do expect a great match on Sunday, with the belts hopefully changing hands. Waiting to see Samoa Joe holding gold is worth watching the match already.

One of the more intriguing matches will be AJ Styles vs. Kazarian. We still don't know why Kaz turned on his former Fortune partner.  Hopefully, we will get some answers on Sunday.

Styles and longtime rival Christopher Daniels had a good match on Impact.  I'm sure this feud will continue after Against All Odds. I don't know who's going to win, and that gives me a reason to watch it. A potential Match of the Night...

I say "potential Match of the Night," because of the awesomeness that the long-overdue X-Division Championship title match between Austin Aries and Alex Shelley will be.

Is it just me or, when Shelley came back a few weeks ago, did the entire IWC wet their pants in excitement over this feud?

This is the equivalent of the Green Bay Packers playing the New England Patriots for the Super Bowl.

The top two players in the division are in the beginning of what should be an epic feud––even bigger than Jericho/Punk, which we know will be a bust due to poor WWE booking.

But, I digress. Even though Shelley won on Impact, I'm not sure who will win this one which makes it a must see for any fan of wrestling!

COUNTERPOINT by Ryder:

Oh, come on. We all know that TNA messes up every good thing they do with screwed-up booking.

For starters, where is Kurt Angle?

I know he's training for the Olympics, but they should've had him in here somewhere. The World Title scene dies a bit inside without him there to make it more of an exciting challenge.

No Kurt Angle = change the channel. I'm certainly not ordering any PPV that doesn't have the best wrestler in the world on it.

Also, we know that Roode is going to win by nefarious means, as they set up his potential Lockdown rematch with Storm in April. (Any other match would be pale in comparison; even TNA can't botch this, we hope.)

So, why would anyone spend their dollars in February when they can do it in a few months? Most guys are already going to be broke next week thanks to Valentine's Day.

Save your money when you already know the result, bro.

Worse, Hogan is in it!

He can't keep his nose out of the spotlight now that the world's worst-kept secret is out, with him "training" Garret Bischoff.

By the way, what is he training him to do? No-sell and bury young talent?

This kid is hogging PPV time in yet another "epic" against Gunner––the guy who grunts worse than Randy Orton. Where Robbie E. so I can't at least get some fist pumping on the card?

This is nothing more than an attempt to put Hogan over. The other, young guys will get buried again––just like they did on the last PPV Hogan showed up on. Remember Bound for Glory?

I noticed, John, that you didn't even include the Knockouts, TNA's best rated segment week in and week out?

Do we get "Hardcore Country" Mickie James? Nope.

Do we get the pigeons and Velvet Sky? Nope.

We get a WWE Diva match between Tara and Gail Kim. Yes, Gail Kim is a hot as a volcano and her looks ain't so bad either.

But seriously, with all of the women who can wrestle, they put my future third baby mama, Gail, in there with a woman who is over-the-hill?

TNA expects me to pay for this crap? No, thank you!

Well, there you go, ladies and gentlemen. You decide. Is Against All Odds worth purchasing?
