2012 Big 12 Football Schedule: Predicting the 5 Most Exciting High-Scoring Games

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The Big 12 schedule was finally released after several delays and a lot of patiently waiting fans counting the days. As we look it over, we see several games that are must-watch contests. These games may not exactly feature the best teams in the world, but there will be a lot of offense.

One of the reasons many didn't like the BCS National Championship last year was because of a lack of points scored. Fans for whatever reason don't necessarily like great defense and would rather watch a game where teams go up and down the field. We saw a lot of that last year and have the potential to see even more this season.

Here are five games that should keep you on the edge of your seat and will include a lot of fireworks.

5. Texas Tech vs. Baylor, 11/24

1 of 5

When these two teams met last year, the final score was a ridiculous 66-42 with the Bears pulling out the victory. Neither one of these teams can play defense as they were both ranked outside of the top 100 in scoring defense. Texas Tech has a great quarterback in Seth Doege, and Baylor lost Robert Griffin but have a solid replacement in Nick Florence.

With this game being played in Cowboys Stadium, the weather won't be a factor, and we'll get to enjoy touchdown after touchdown.

4. TCU at West Virginia, 11/03

2 of 5

We all know West Virginia is a high scoring team as they averaged over 37 points a year ago. But TCU wasn't too shabby either, finishing the year ranked ninth in the country with an average of 40 points per contest.

With this game taking place in Morgantown and featuring the two new kids on the block in the Big 12, expect each team to prove themselves and light the scoreboard up.

3. Texas vs. Oklahoma, 10/13

3 of 5

Two of the most talented teams going at it. You know it's going to be a very interesting matchup that everybody will be watching, and most of all, it will feature a lot of points. Just know in the last five matchups between these two teams, only once has it failed to top at least 40 combined points.

The Red River Rivalry will draw in big ratings and satisfy every fan with a lot of scoring.

2. Oklahoma at West Virginia, 11/17

4 of 5

You can bet the scoreboard will be constantly changing in this game, featuring two of the top quarterbacks in Geno Smith and Landry Jones. West Virginia was the sixth best passing team in the country last year, and Oklahoma was the fifth. Add the fact that both of these teams have tons of playmakers from Dominique Whaley to Tavon Austin, and you have yourself an offensive explosion.

Not to mention this game will likely have huge BCS implications.

1. Kansas at Baylor, 10/03

5 of 5

If you want points, this is the game for you.

Sure, Baylor lost its star quarterback in Robert Griffin, but even Nick Florence can put up points against a defense that was ranked dead last in points allowed a season ago. The Bears weren't much better either as they allowed over 37 points per game.

You add Charlie Weis and a former 5-star quarterback to the Jayhawks team, and you have yourself an offense that can get the job done. Expect the scoreboard to break in this game.
