Will the New York Giants Pay Victor Cruz the Money He Deserves?

Chris TrapassoJun 7, 2018

Victor Cruz was the Vizio Top Value Performer this year, a distinction given to the NFL player that does the most while being paid the least amount of money.

The Giants' leading receiver made $450,000 in 2011 and is currently due to get a raise next season. A raise to $490,000.

Not exactly the type of money a guy who reeled in 82 passes for 1,536 yards with nine touchdowns including a score in the Super Bowl deserves.

The budding star spoke with ProFootballTalk Live and went about his contract the right way. He said the following:

"

“I think I was paid, you know, relative to where I came in this year and, you know, I came in as a free agent so that’s the salary I was on, so I don’t feel like I was underpaid,” Cruz said.  “I mean, I feel like after my performance this year, you know, I feel like I deserve to be paid more money at this point.  But that’s something I’ll let my agents and those people take care of and I’ll just go out there and play the game.”

"

Nothing wrong with that quote.

Nothing at all.

Cruz is worthy of a restructured deal. He was paid like an undrafted free agent this season, as he should have been, and now it's time he's paid like one of the better wideouts in the league.

Based on his comments and the overall demeanor he displayed this season, it doesn't seem like he's bound to become a me-first type of player that wants to create problems within the organization.

But he's right, he deserves more than $490,000. Way more. He should be an extremely rich man very soon.
