Stefon Diggs: Setting the Odds on Which Program Lands the Coveted Recruit

Randy ChambersFeb 8, 2012

National Signing Day ended a week ago, and a majority of the top recruits from this year's recruiting class have already made up their minds on where they will play football.

Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is not one of those players, as when majority of the players were making their commitment, he was still trying to decide.

Diggs is one of the top athletes in this year's recruiting class. His 6'0", 185-pound frame isn't exactly the biggest in the world, but the kid can flat out fly. He's a playmaker on the football field and a threat to take it the distance every time the ball is in his hands. He's a receiver who can stretch the field for you and even provide a spark on special teams as well.

He had offers from nearly every top school in the country, but has narrowed his list down to only four schools. He's expected to make his decision on Feb. 10 and here are the chances each school has at landing the 5-star wide receiver.

Maryland

How much does Maryland want the speedy wide receiver? They made wanted posters for the young man and have even offered an award for whoever finds him.

We saw Dorial Green-Beckham stay home when making his decision, will Diggs do the same? The Terrapins are less than a 30-minute car ride away from Diggs' hometown of Olney. Maryland also has great receivers to come out of their program in Darrius Heyward-Bey and Torrey Smith.

Maryland was the last school he visited and I do expect them to have a serious chance at landing him. When you combine the home advantage, playing in the ACC and having a solid head coach in Randy Edsall, don't be surprised if they land him.

Auburn

Auburn is a team in the SEC, which does give the Tigers a huge advantage in this race. They're also on the rise and have a very young team after losing the majority of their key players from that 2010 National Championship team.

With Auburn, he'd be able to play his part, as they already landed two solid receivers in Ricardo Louis and Jaquay Williams, who is 6'4". Not to mention you still have Emory Blake on this team as well. I really consider Auburn one of the favorites in this race.

Ohio State

The Buckeyes are really coming on strong lately and it's really hard to bet against somebody such as Urban Meyer. He recently visited with Ohio State and really enjoyed himself—so much so that he is seriously considering becoming a Buckeye.

Playing in Meyer's spread, Diggs would be able to put up serious numbers. He'd also receive quality playing time right away with really no serious receiver threats currently on the team. Ohio State wasn't a contender for his services, but now they are.

Florida

The Gators were considered the favorite to land Diggs from the beginning and appear to be back on track to land him. The only time they fell out of the race was when they lost offensive coordinator Charlie Weis to Kansas.

But now that they have landed Brent Pease, they are back in the race and are likely the favorite. You can even hear Diggs himself say that the Gators are back in the race here.

Diggs would be able to play right away on this team, get to play in the SEC and it appears to be the team he's been considering the most. I mean, even his mom took a visit before he did.

Percentage: 30%
