College Football Recruiting 2013: Ranking the Top 10 Wide Receivers
We get to ranking the pass catchers today. Wide receiver is a tough position to project because so much goes into it. That's why sometimes you see 5-stars bust and 3-stars become Justin Blackmon.
But it's my job, so I'll do it. I'm going to give you the top 10 WRs so far for 2013. This board, being it's February, is bound to change almost immediately, but here's who I like so far.
10. Jake Oliver
1 of 10Oliver is 6'3", 185-pounder with above-average speed. Yet he catches everything in his zip code, shows a large catch radius and runs great routes.
He gets separation with subtle quickness and has a feel to settle in voids.
Early offers include: Clemson, Michigan, Texas A&M, Tech, Cal and Baylor.
9. Rickey Jefferson
2 of 10Jefferson is a 6'0", 175-pound WR that is an excellent run-after-the-catch guy. He's from Louisiana and is the type that you just need to get him the ball. He can be used on smoke screens, quick bubbles, reverses, slants and gos.
Early offers include: LSU and Alabama
8. Jamar Gibson
3 of 10Gibson is a 6'2", 195-pound WR with a solid skill set. He has good speed to get off the line and stem up DBs, can separate well in his cuts and has strength to fight CBs for the ball and outmuscle them.
He's committed to Texas A&M.
7. Jayron Kearse
4 of 10Kearse is tall and lanky (6'5" and 200 pounds) and is a sheer glider. He's smooth, glides in his running all around the field and is a strider. He catches well and is still learning his craft, but he's got a high ceiling.
He's committed to Miami.
6. Jordan Cunningham
5 of 10Cunningham is a Sunshine State native that stands 6'3" and 175 pounds. He reminds me a bit of Avery Johnson last year.
Cunningham has great body control in his route running, very good deep speed and can use his size to go get balls over defenders.
Early offers include: Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State and Miami.
5. Stacy Coley
6 of 10Standing 6'1" and 175 pounds, Coley's a very good WR from Florida. He's got very good fluidity to his athleticism, looks effortless on the field and has great speed. I like that he seems to have quiet hands, in the sense that he's natural to catch and snatch ball around his frame.
Early offers include: Florida, Florida State, Tennessee and Texas Tech.
4. Ahmad Fulwood
7 of 10Fulwood is from Florida and has a 6'4", 200-pound frame. He won't wow you with his release, quickness and ability to beat press coverage, but if a CB plays off him, it's over.
Fulwood has a large strike zone, great athleticism and is a big-play threat.
Early offers include: Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson.
3. Ricky Seals-Jones
8 of 10Seals-Jones stands 6'5" and 215 pounds and has been a force in Lone Star State prep football.
He's got an imposing frame, strength to fight jams off the line and good hands. His speed is deceptive as he can get by a secondary, and he's dominant on fade routes.
Early offers include: Alabama, Notre Dame and LSU.
2. Derrick Griffin
9 of 10Martin is a big Texan at 6'6" and 215 pounds. He high-points well, snatches everything in sight and is a red-zone terror. He's not a blazer, but think of Keyshawn Johnson or Plaxico Burress.
He's committed to Texas A&M.
1. Robert Foster
10 of 10Foster is a 6'2", 190-pounder from Pennsylvania. He's explosive and has very good release quickness off the line. I don't have much concern with him beating press coverage right now.
He has a long frame, a good-sized strike zone and tops the board to start the year.
Early offers include: Florida State, Ohio State and Notre Dame.
