Super Bowl 2012 Halftime Show: Madonna Will Bore Younger Fans

Patrick ClarkeJun 4, 2018

Madonna will be performing during halftime of Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots, but unfortunately for a good portion of the viewers, she is an unknown talent.

The younger people in attendance, and watching around the world, would be better suited to get some homework done or break for the dinner table once the second quarter comes to an end.

Madonna hasn't been relevant on the music scene for nearly decades now, and quite honestly it is a shame that the NFL settled on such an irrelevant artist.

That's not to say that Madonna isn't one of the greatest musical artists in the history of modern society and worthy of the honor, but there is a time and place for everything, and somehow the biggest stage in sports doesn't seem like the time or place for a 53-year-old pop singer.

Older people do in fact watch the Super Bowl, and many viewers will by excited for Madonna to take the stage Sunday night in Indy, but the majority of those born beyond the 1980s, with radios in their cars and music in their life, will feel like they have lived under a rock for years when the beat drops at halftime.

She is scheduled to perform her new single "Give Me All Your Livin" as well, but I've not yet heard it nor heard of its existence before the days leading up to Super Bowl XLVI.

Madonna will apparently get some help from more current artists during her live, primetime performance. The list of artists includes Nicki Minaj, LMFAO, M.I.A. and Cee-Lo Green.

The fact that the halftime show will feature these other artists, all current and relativity popular nowadays, proves that the NFL itself is not even completely satisfied with its selection. Otherwise it would be Madonna, and only Madonna.

The effects of Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson's mishap back in February 2004 is still being felt by NFL fans and Super Bowl viewers. That incident, which lasted less than a second, has made its presence felt at every Super Bowl Sunday performance since and will again on Sunday.

For younger viewers like myself, Madonna is but a famous name rather than a much-anticipated superstar deserving of the stage.
