UFC News: Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva II Official for Brazil in June
The long-anticipated rematch is finally official.
Chael Sonnen, arguably the UFC's most controversial fighter, will be the next challenger for Anderson Silva's UFC middleweight title in June.
The event will be in Brazil, Silva's homeland, but a date and venue are yet to be determined, according to MMA Junkie. However, Sao Paulo is the most likely destination right now according to UFC president Dana White.
Silva was in Las Vegas, Nev. for UFC 143, which took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and White said he came to a verbal agreement with the champion during the event.
Sonnen recently said that he thought "The Spider" was done fighting, and that he had turned down a rematch with him four times already.
However, White said that "The Gangster from Oregon" was off-base with his comments and he was always confident the rematch would happen.
"Chael's full of [expletive]," White told MMA Junkie. "You guys need to stop listening to Chael."
White recently said that the June card will likely feature another rematch, Vitor Belfort vs. Wanderlei Silva, as the two head coaches of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil will square off in the season finale.
The UFC president did not name a potential venue for the event at this time.
Sonnen and Silva infamously fought at UFC 117, with Sonnen up on all the judges' scorecards heading into the fifth and final round.
Midway through, the champion locked up a triangle choke/armbar, forcing Sonnen to tap with only two-and-a-half minutes remaining in the bout.
