WWE: Kane's 10 Most Ridiculous, Weird, and Out-There Angles

Robert AitkenFeb 8, 2012

Over the years, Kane has really had some crazy things happen to him. It's hard to expect anything less for Glen Jacobs, who has portrayed Kane since the character's debut on October 5, 1997. Before that night, Jacobs was in the then-World Wrestling Federation as Issac Yankem D.D.S., the personal dentist of Jerry Lawler. After the gimmick lost momentum, he would be repackaged into a fake Diesel, taking the place of Kevin Nash with the gimmick when Nash left for WCW.

Given yet another gimmick with Kane, Jacobs has made a career out of what could have easily been a character brought in for a storyline with The Undertaker and nothing else. Instead, the brother of The Deadman has stuck it out in WWE and approaches his 15th anniversary in eight months.

His current storyline with John Cena involves Kane wanting Cena to "embrace the hate" and no longer rise above it. It has been an interesting feud with a compelling storyline and a few odd twists, such as the involvement of Zack Ryder. Still, they don't quite compare with the list of historical oddities in the feuds made famous by the Devil's Favorite Demon.

Kane Burns His Parents' Graves

1 of 10

During his feud with The Undertaker, which started it all, Kane was unable to speak and had Paul Bearer as a manager and mouthpiece. Bearer was an old manager for The Undertaker, but was initially billed as the father of Kane, making Kane the half-brother of The Undertaker. Kane would cost The Undertaker a match in his debut at Badd Blood: In Your House during the first-ever Hell in a Cell match.

Kane would try to force The Undertaker to fight him, but The Undertaker refused to fight his own flesh and blood. In order to change his brother's mind, Kane would try to anger The Undertaker. With the help of Bearer, an episode of RAW in Long Island would have Kane take the headstones of The Undertaker's parents, which included Kane's own mother, broke the stones into pieces and set them on fire.

I guess that was the night that the world figured out that Kane was born in Long Island. No wonder he hates Zack Ryder so much.

Kane Resists Going Back to the Looney Bin

During that feud with The Undertaker, Bearer revealed himself to be an employee of a funeral parlor run by The Undertaker's parents. As the story goes, the fire was set in the funeral parlor when The Undertaker and Kane were still little. The Undertaker thought Kane had perished in the fire along with his parents, only to be mistaken when Kane came to WWE. It was believed by The Undertaker that Kane set the fire, while the beliefs are reversed by Kane.

Fearful of what to do with his son, Bearer would tell a tale of how he left Kane at an insane asylum to be raised there. That fact would later be referenced when Kane joined The Corporation. In an act of standing up to the faction, Kane refused to lay down for The Rock on the RAW prior to 1999's Royal Rumble. Kane debuted in the Royal Rumble match in 1999, starting a long tradition of being in the match, which was snapped this year.

Always one to show off in the Rumble match, Kane eliminated Road Dogg, Kurrgan, The Godfather and Goldust in less than a minute. He then fought off "the whitecoats" who were going to take him back to the insane asylum before eliminating himself and leaving the arena. Kane's impressive Rumble debut lasted just 53 seconds.

Kane and His Kaneinites

As the 21st century began, Kane had adapted and was becoming more and more respected by the fans of WWE. Kane was involved in the Invasion storyline, aligned with The Undertaker. By 2002, Kane feuded with the nWo as the company was split into the RAW and Smackdown brands. Kane would injure his biceps and be out for months. Returning in the summer of 2002, Kane would come back to fight The Un-Americans, do his version of Booker T's Spinaroonie, and just show more personality overall.

Suddenly, Kane wasn't just a demonic monster. He was a big guy that began seeming human and showing charisma. One of the more memorable clips from this time for Kane was his interaction with The Rock and Hulk Hogan. Kane would end up stealing catchphrases from both and refer to his fans as "Kaneinites". It wasn't a big thing or even a sustained part of his gimmick, but it was pretty odd.

Kane and Katie Vick

4 of 10

There are a heck of a lot of bad ideas that get conjured up in creative staff meetings. Almost all of them get caught eventually and held off from being exposed to the fan base. I said almost. This was not one of the lucky ones.

The Katie Vick saga was a forgettable one for those higher up in the WWE. It all came up during Kane's feud with Triple H. Triple H made a comment to Kane about knowing about his secret past with a woman named Katie Vick. The Game then told the world of Kane's apparent relationship with this woman. After her shocking death, Triple H also stated that Kane decided to have sex with the deceased woman.

Triple H's efforts went so far as to dress up as Kane for a video and mock Kane's supposed rape of a dead woman. It honestly went way too far and built up to Kane losing the Intercontinental Championship to Triple H, who deactivated the title for a time. Stemming from this storyline would be the grounds that would ultimately unmask Kane.

Kane and Lita: Till Death Do Us Part

5 of 10

Following his unmasking, Kane was built back up as a destructive monster. Revealing no actual damage to his face, it was made obvious to fans that Kane's scars were mental and not physical. Kane was on a warpath that only led him to another WrestleMania match with The Undertaker. Following WrestleMania XX, Kane started a relationship storyline with Lita.

Initially not interested in Kane, Lita was then kidnapped and would announce being pregnant weeks later. Her on-and-off-screen boyfriend, Matt Hardy, would lay claim to the child, but it was Kane who announced that it was his. Kane and Hardy would have a storyline with Lita and the child in the balance. Kane would defeat Hardy in a "Till Death Do Us Part" match, where Lita would have to marry the winner.

Kane would eventually grow on Lita and, while she initially hated it, the pregnancy seemed to be moving along well. A match with Kane and Gene Snitsky would cause Lita to accidentally fall and miscarry the baby.

Kane Hates May 19

6 of 10

Kane would later align with Big Show, creating one of the most dominant World Tag Team Champions in history. After defending easily at WrestleMania 22, Kane would be attacked... verbally... by himself. It would be Kane's voice that would distract and disorient The Big Red Monster. It caused the team to lose their titles to The Spirit Squad. The voices were telling Kane about a date: May 19.

Nobody was quite sure what May 19 stood for, but it was driving Kane crazy. An episode of Smackdown aired on May 19 and Kane appeared on it. Kane was picked by JBL to wrestle Rey Mysterio. When the voices came, Kane would attack both JBL and Mysterio before storming off. Kane would later explain that May 19 was the date when his family was killed in the fire referenced in his origin.

Kane Fights Himself

7 of 10

Those voices talking about May 19 would culminate in the appearance of an impostor Kane. The impostor sported the attire that Kane originally wore, complete with original mask. This would begin on May 29, ten days after the May 19 that the voices spoke of. For weeks following, Kane would fight himself, or at least what was billed as an identical sight of his former self. It didn't look very convincing to many fans and the angle was just pointless.

It would even garner a pay-per-view match, which resulted in the real Kane losing to the fake version. The real Kane would get the real victory, throwing the impostor out of the arena following that pay-per-view and taking his old mask back.

Kane, Khali, and a Hook

8 of 10

It's funny that May 19 would come up in the previous two slides, because it makes a reference in this one as well. May 19 wasn't just a date in a storyline for Kane, but was also the release date of See No Evil, the first movie to star Glen Jacobs. Following his fight with himself, Kane wasn't seen for weeks as Jacobs toured Europe to promote the film.

When he would return, Kane would be holding on to a hook, a featured weapon by Kane's character in the movie, Jacob Goodnight. The hook would adapt itself into a WrestleMania match for Kane with The Great Khali. At WrestleMania 23, the two would fight one another in a match that would try to pay homage to the slam by Hulk Hogan of Andre the Giant 20 years earlier. Kane would deliver the slam this time around, but it wouldn't have the same impact.

Kane would end up losing the match at WrestleMania in just over five minutes. Kane would also be choked out with the chain of his hook following the match.

Kane Carries a Rey Mysterio Mask in a Burlap Bag

9 of 10

In 2008, Kane randomly began carrying around a burlap bag when he came to the ring. After weeks of speculation, Kane revealed the bag to contain one of Rey Mysterio's masks. Kane would feud with Mysterio from this. Kane would even put his mask back on for a backstage promo. Kane would say that Mysterio is cheered for being a coward who would not unmask, while Kane is ridiculed and judged despite removing his. Kane even states that he removed it for the benefit of the people to see him for what he really is.

This feud is such a low point for Kane that nobody really cares about it. It is seldom talked about and there are few things that even reference it. It wasn't just bad, it was also forgettable.

Kane and Undertaker's Vegetative State

10 of 10

In May 2010, Kane would insert himself back into the title picture, attempting to qualify for a Fatal 4-Way match for the World Heavyweight Championship at the failed Fatal 4-Way pay-per-view. Kane's failure would be overshadowed by an attack on The Undertaker. It would be referred to that The Undertaker was in a vegetative state from the job done to him. Rey Mysterio would earn The Undertaker's spot at Fatal 4-Way. It would be Kane that would cause distraction, but Mysterio who would win anyway.

At Money in the Bank, Kane won one of the briefcases and wasted little time in cashing in. Later that night, following his title defense, Rey Mysterio was attacked by Kane and lost the title to him. Kane would speak of vengeance for whoever did this to his brother. It would ultimately be revealed as Kane himself who did it. The Undertaker would return months later, but appear much weaker. The Undertaker should have been thrilled, especially since most actual versions of a vegetative state would yield no positive results, let alone a full recovery.
