Super Bowl Kickoff Time 2012: Early Start Time Makes Game Even Better

Dan RenfroJun 7, 2018

The start time for the Super Bowl makes the game even better.

The game is scheduled to start at 6:29 p.m. EST, which is the perfect time in prime-time.

For such a big game, the time can't be in the afternoon. Players need to prepare throughout the day, and they will be at their best in prime-time. Obviously, then, it has to be a night game.

With that said, the game is still on a Sunday night. People have to go to work and school on Monday. As a result, the game can't be on too late.

Since the game can't be on too early or too late, why not just start it right in the middle?

During the season, games start at 4:15 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. EST. For the Super Bowl, the NFL splits the difference. At 6:29, the game isn't too early, nor is it too late.

That just shows why the NFL—and the Super Bowl—is the epitome of American sports.

The game works best for the players and the viewers.

The game doesn't start too early because that could hurt the teams trying to prepare. They need to get rest and get fully ready for the biggest game of the season.

As for the viewers, the game doesn't start too late. Sunday marks the end of the weekend, and no one wants to be up too late with the Super Bowl. Obviously, most people will watch the entire game. So, by starting earlier, everyone can stay up to watch the game without staying up too late.

Therefore, by starting at 6:29 p.m. EST, the Super Bowl proves, once again, why it is the greatest event in American sports.
