ESPNU 150 2012: Best Fits for Top Unsigned Recruits
Alabama, Florida State and Texas made recruiting look easy yesterday.
The three programs all added a number of talented recruits that can contribute immediately and are currently ranked No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 by ESPNU.
That isn't to say schools like Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, Stanford and USC (among others) didn't have great days, too.
And that isn't to say that the recruiting classes of 2012 are complete either.
Some of the nation's top recruits, including some ranked in the ESPNU 150, remain unsigned...
Davonte Neal (No. 8 Overall, No. 1 Athlete)
The 5'10", 175-pound playmaker is dynamite with the football in his hands and can also be a lockdown corner.
Neal is considering Arizona (his home state), Arkansas, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Ohio State. All interested schools knew he wasn't going to sign on National Signing Day.
The top-ranked athlete will likely make his decision knowing what side of the ball he wants to play.
With the amount of time he's taking to make a decision, it seems more and more likely that Arizona will be able to keep him home. However, playing a Percy Harvin-like role in Urban Meyer's offense at Ohio State will be tough to pass up.
Notre Dame is also in desperate need of playmakers at wide receiver and cornerback after their misses yesterday.
Best Fit: Ohio State
Likely Destination: Arizona
Stefon Diggs (No. 13 Overall, No. 3 Athlete)
Diggs is bigger than Neal at 6'0", 185 pounds and is going to play wide receiver or running back at the next level.
The Maryland local is choosing between the Terps, Florida, Auburn, USC and California. With the Trojans landing Nelson Algohor yesterday, it would be surprising to see Diggs follow him there.
The speedy athlete is very raw and still coming into his own. He can bring offensive firepower to any offense, but has the look of a Gator about him.
Best Fit: Florida
Likely Destination: Florida (Auburn a close second)
Jameis Winston (No. 14 Overall, No. 1 Quarterback)
The longtime Florida State commit told ESPNU live on air yesterday that when he returns from his baseball tournament that he fully intends to honor his commitment to Florida State. With the class they brought in, it would be surprising if he didn't.
The only other school that could interest him is Stanford, where he can also play football and baseball with good friend and recent Cardinal signee, Noor Davis (No. 25 Overall in ESPNU 150).
Best Fit: Florida State
Likely Destination: Florida State
Jordan Diamond (No. 94 Overall, No. 10 Offensive Tackle)
The big, athletic tackle prospect comes in at 6'6", 291 pounds. At that size, he has room to grow into his frame still and is already a dominant run blocker.
The Chicago native is considering Michigan, Auburn, Wisconsin and Arkansas after eliminating Ohio State. He will sign on Friday.
It would be a surprise if he left the Midwest.
Best Fit: Michigan or Wisconsin
Likely Destination: Michigan
