Oklahoma State Recruiting 2012: Who Could Start and Who Will Get Lost in the Mix
National signing day has come and gone. The Oklahoma State Cowboys have signed some big-time players at many different positions and with many different skill sets.
It will soon be sink-or-swim time for these recruits, and sometimes you can tell which will do which.
Here are the young ones that will have a chance to start immediately and some who may get lost in the shuffle.
Potential Starter: Wes Lunt
1 of 5With senior quarterback Brandon Weeden headed to the NFL, the quarterback competition will be wide open heading into the spring.
Wes Lunt is one of the best incoming quarterbacks in the nation. The 6'5" Rochester, Illinois native led his high school to back-to-back titles and appears to be tailor-made for the Cowboys' high powered passing attack.
He graduated early in December so that he could get on campus. That helps his chances at starting exponentially.
Potentially Lost in the Mix: Caleb Muncrief
2 of 5Caleb Muncrief is a good story. He's from small Madill, Oklahoma and is one of the better athletes coming out of the state.
However, he's also a bit of an odd ball for the Cowboys. He's been primarily a running back, but he will have tough time breaking into the rotation any time soon.
He's also only 5'8", which limits him for other positions. He has played some defense, so cornerback could be in his future. Anyway, his tweener status make him a candidate to possibly get lost in the mix.
Potential Starter: Trace Clark
3 of 5Cowboy fans should be excited about this guy. Not only is Trace Clark a big and athletic defensive end (6'5", 240 pounds), he's also got an extremely good head on his shoulders.
An ACT score of 29 is no slouch, which is what he has according to Rivals. His ability and brainpower combined with the Cowboys losing two senior defensive ends makes him a great starting candidate.
Potentially Lost in the Mix: Jesse Vester
4 of 5A 5'10" wide receiver out of Stillwater, Jesse Vester is one of many hometown guys to sign with the Cowboys over the last few years. However, it may have not been the best decision.
The Cowboys have brought in a ton of wide receivers in this class and already have a very talented returning core of receivers. Vester will have difficulty finding playing time.
His best bet will be as a return man, but even that may be a longshot.
Potential Starter: C.J. Curry
5 of 5C.J. Curry is the best of the wide receivers in this Cowboy class. Out of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Curry is 6'2" tall, weighs around 210, runs a 4.5 40-yard dash and has a 31-inch vertical.
If that doesn't get you excited as a fan, nothing will. As I wrote earlier, the Cowboys do have a big crop of talent at this position. However, Curry might be the one guy who can crack the starting lineup.
He has a big opportunity to be the next Dez Bryant or Justin Blackmon at Oklahoma State.
