Michigan Football Recruiting: Wolverines Quietly Secure Elite 2012 Class
The University of Michigan didn't land a five-star recruit, according to the ESPNU 150, but they did give the Wolverines No. 8 national ranking as things stand now.
Rivals disagrees, awarding them two five-star prospects and a No. 6 class. And Scout gave them one five-star signee, but a No. 4 overall class.
Although these recruiting outlets disagree on the number of five-star recruits, one thing is undeniable: a top 10 recruiting class.
Brady Hoke locked up a number of his commits before the 2011 season even started. He then turned in a dominant 11-2 season, and has all 25 of his commits signed.
The second-year coach told ESPN during an interview (via the Detroit Free Press):
"I think our kids believe in Michigan first and foremost, and I think that's an important part of who we are. With the great tradition, 133 years of football that we’re starting here. A wonderful education that a lot of universities can’t say that, alumni base and the winningest program in the history of college football. Our guys play for Michigan, and they understand what that means.
"
Early this morning, they got a surprise commitment from three-star running back Dennis Norfleet and that was the only surprise in Ann Arbor.
Ask a majority of the coaches around the country, typically no surprises equals good news when all they want to do is lock down their already committed recruits.
The Wolverines didn't make a lot of noise, but they made sure they did a great job of getting what they wanted and needed.
Hoke hasn't been running the program long, but he's quickly bringing it back to relevancy.
