National Signing Day 2012: Biggest Winners and Losers of Early Signings
The words "hollering," "whooping," "cheering" and "pandemonium" have been used by several on-site reporters so far this morning.
In almost every instance, it has been from the excitement of a surprise signing.
Big names have made some surprising moves today. When that happens, it is obviously at the expense of another school.
The biggest winners and losers thus far? Let's take a look.
Winners
Texas
The Longhorns and Mack Brown closed very strong down the stretch. Only a few days after flipping Dalton Santos, reports from Austin claim they've also flipped Torshiro Davis.
Davis is a 6'3", 225-pound pass rusher from Shreveport, Louisiana. That's LSU territory. The Tigers were waiting on his signature, but he's reportedly going to be signing for the Longhorns instead.
Should Texas see his signature come across their fax machine, it would be a huge steal.
USC
The Trojans weren't expecting a huge class, but they landed 4-star athlete Nelson Agholor and 4-star defensive tackle Leonard Williams early today.
Agholor can do a number of things for the Trojans on either side of the ball. Williams, meanwhile, is 6'5", 265 pounds and just scratching the surface of what he can do.
USC is coming off a two-year bowl ban and Lane Kiffin has done a phenomenal job of getting some talented players that can help his extremely talented squad immediately.
Losers
Notre Dame
The Irish were hoping for no surprises today, since that would mean no bad news. They had already put together a potential Top-10 class with the commitments they had received and the early enrollees already on campus, but disaster struck in the form of a huge surprise.
Deontay Greenberry, a 4-star wide receiver and reigning Mr. Football in California, spurned the Irish at the last minute in order to sign with Houston instead.
They were also working to flip Brian Poole, but held strong and signed with Florida
Barring a surprise turnaround from the highly-touted cornerback Ronald Darby or a surprise commitment from Davonte Neal in the coming days (he will not sign today), the Irish will have taken a bigger hit than they wanted on National Signing Day.
