Dorial Green-Beckham to Missouri: Why He Just Cost Tyler Wilson a Heisman Shot
Dorial Green-Beckham surprised many when he decided to ink with the Missouri Tigers today. He was expected to pick between the Tigers and the Arkansas Razorbacks, but recently the Razorbacks looked to be in the lead.
There were reports that he had swayed toward the Tigers direction all over Twitter and in the news streams, but nothing firm was uncovered until his announcement on ESPN today. Green-Beckham is a very talented receiver who has the range and ability to make an instant impact.
Landing at Missouri puts Green-Beckham in the immediate national spotlight as he will be looked upon to be the landmark recruit of the class and the playmaking leader for the offense for years to come. Green-Beckham will take part in the inaugural Missouri SEC season in 2012, which conveniently excludes the Razorbacks.
Arkansas saw three of their star receivers depart after this season leaving a lack of experience on the bench for Tyler Wilson to throw to this fall. There will not be a proven major playmaker for the Hogs to ensure that Wilson has security in tight situations. Green-Beckham has the talent to have been that guy.
Tyler Wilson decided to stay for his senior season at Arkansas and not only is winning championships important, but so is the individual accolades. Wilson is a star in Fayetteville and could be a Heisman candidate by the time the season gets cranked up.
Having a high profile talent sign with the Razorbacks would bring additional attention to an already high profile offense. Wilson not only needs the big target, but the publicity is a must. Arkansas is on the national stage as they play in the SEC, but they are also one of many talented squads in the SEC West.
Tyler Wilson needs to find a receiver that will be able to pull in big plays around and over defenders and also a guy that can take it to the end zone on any given play. Green-Beckham shows the elite speed and ball tracking to have made those plays.
Wilson will win his games at Arkansas but there will be a need to boost the publicity around his senior season as the Razorbacks will battle with Alabama, Auburn and LSU for attention in the packed SEC West. Wilson has the talent to prosper, but will he find that premier target this season?
The hope for the Razorbacks is that Cobi Hamilton and Chris Gragg can fill the roles left by the departed seniors, but adding Green-Beckham would have made things much easier and sweeter for the Razorbacks this season.
