Dorial Green-Beckham Chooses Missouri: Why He's the Next Jeremy Maclin

Rob GoldbergJun 7, 2018

Missouri made the biggest splash on National Signing Day by getting a commitment from Dorial Green-Beckham. Not only is he a great receiver, but he can be even better than recent Tigers star Jeremy Maclin.

In 2007-2008, Maclin had as good of a two-year college career as anyone in recent history.

As a freshman, he burst on the scene not only as a top receiver but as an all-purpose performer. He totaled 80 receptions and 1,055 receiving yards, while adding 375 yards and four touchdowns as a runner.

In case that was not enough, Maclin also added three touchdowns on special teams.

He did not slow down in his sophomore season, either. Maclin caught 102 passes and finished with 1,553 yards and 15 touchdowns from scrimmage before becoming a first-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Can Dorial Green-Beckham, another highly touted Missouri native who decided to stay in his home state, repeat the performance of the two-time All-American?

Absolutely.

Green-Beckham might not have the all-purpose game that Maclin was able to provide, but the incoming-freshman should make an immediate impact as one of the best receivers in the nation.

Should the team want to air it out, he has elite speed, which helps him as a deep threat. He also has incredible agility that allows him to turn a short pass into a long gain. Furthermore, he has good strength for the position, which will help him catch a ball in traffic.

Despite all of this, Green-Beckham will have something that Maclin could never compete with. That is, height. At 6'6", he is a full six inches taller than the former Tiger.

Whenever quarterback James Franklin is in trouble, he will be able to loft the ball up to his newest target and feel comfortable that his player will come down with it.

Maclin was able to come in and contribute in his redshirt-freshman season, but Green-Beckham is physically ready to play next season and dominate.

There is little doubt that the receiver will give Missouri three solid years of football before moving on to the next level.

Scott Kennedy of Scout.com calls Green-Beckham "one of the best receivers I've scouted in 10 years."

It will only be a matter of time until the rest of the nation sees what he is capable of and agrees.
