National Signing Day 2012: Predicting Where Top Offensive Playmakers Will Sign
The vast majority of the nation's top recruits have already committed, but there are certainly some elite players who have waited until national signing day to make their decisions. That is clear on the offensive side of the ball as there are quite a few impact players remaining.
Every school is looking for playmakers for their offense, so there are many teams in pursuit of the remaining big-name players. We will soon find out where these high-profile offensive players will land, but here are my predictions for the top three remaining.
ATH Ricardo Louis
Miami Beach, Fla., 4-star athlete Ricardo Louis is the No. 21 overall recruit in the 2012 class, according to the ESPNU 150. Although it obviously hasn't been decided yet, the general consensus is that Louis will likely be a wide receiver at the collegiate level. With a 6'2", 200-pound frame, Louis certainly has the size and speed to create mismatches.
According to Charles Goldberg of the Birmingham News, Louis has narrowed his choices down to Florida State or Auburn. Louis was committed to Auburn for eight months before decommitting and switching to Florida State. Louis again flip-flopped by decommitting from Florida State a couple weeks ago. Goldberg said that Louis told Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher not to bother with a recruiting visit, so I have to believe Louis will be a Tiger.
Prediction: Auburn
ATH Davonte Neal
Rated a 5-star recruit, Davonte Neal is unquestionably one of the most talented players in the 2012 recruiting class. The ESPNU 150 rates the Scottsdale, Ariz., product as the No. 8 overall recruit in the nation. He played both wide receiver and cornerback in high school as well as a dynamic kick returner. At 5'10" and 175 lbs, he can play either way, but I think his best use is as a dynamic deep threat.
Neal is all over the map in terms of interest. According to Anthony Gimino of the Tucson Citizen, Neal is considering Oklahoma, Ohio State, Arizona, Notre Dame, Arkansas and North Carolina, among others. Gimino reports that Neal was very impressed with Ohio State coach Urban Meyer's home visit. Meyer is very persuasive, so I think Neal will ultimately be a Buckeye.
Prediction: Ohio State
Depending upon which media outlet you trust, 5-star wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham is one of the best, if not the best, recruits in the nation. The ESPNU 150 ranks him as the No. 3 overall player and No. 1 wide receiver by a wide margin. DGB is certainly the best recruit remaining on the board, so the college football world will be hinging on his choice.
The 6'6", 220-pound pass catcher is an athletic freak who has the speed to run by defenders and the strength to get physical with them. Every program in the nation is interested, but according to Sporting News he will choose between Missouri, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.
Since Green-Beckham is a Springfield, Mo., native, Missouri is currently the front-runner along with Arkansas. I think it would be a feel-good story if Green-Beckham chose Mizzou over the national powers, and I believe he will.
Prediction: Missouri
