Michigan Football Recruiting: Signing Day Will Provide Little Drama for Big Blue
Signing Day can swing the fortunes of plenty of teams in the college football landscape, but that won’t be the case in Ann Arbor.
Brady Hoke and the rest of the Michigan coaching staff did their heavy lifting at the beginning of the recruiting period and will have little intrigue today.
Chicago Simeon offensive lineman Jordan Diamond has yet to announce his decision and has Arkansas, Auburn, Wisconsin and Michigan on his final list. He is the lone player that could pick Michigan as the clock winds down to zero.
The 2012 class is essentially wrapped up and boy is it a doozy.
ESPNU has them ranked with the eighth-best class with four players rated in the top 150. Overall, they currently have 24 commitments following Monday’s signing of defensive tackle Willie Henry from Cleveland.
Rivals has them ranked even higher at No. 5, with two players listed as 5-star talents (Kyle Kalis, OL, Ondre Pipkins, DT), nine as 4-star and 13 as 3-star.
One of the biggest differences this season that is sure to put a smile on the Wolverine fans faces: the team has brought in six recruits from the state of Ohio.
Hoke has used his brash and straight-forward style to relate with recruits. He may not be the greatest X’s and O’s coach on the planet, but he is terrific at relating to his player’s and figuring out how to make them feel comfortable in their own shoes. Sometimes honesty is the best policy in the corrupt game of college recruiting.
His style has already yielded Big Blue’s best season on the field since Lloyd Carr left and there is no reason to think the success will be stopping anytime soon.
With a top-10 recruiting class in his first full year of recruiting, in addition to a Sugar Bowl win, there is little doubt that Hoke is the perfect coach for the job as the memory of the Rich Rodriguez era quickly fades away.
