2012 National Signing Day: Predicting Where Best Remaining 4-Stars Will Land

Tim KeeneyFeb 1, 2012

While all the attention tomorrow during national signing day will surround guys like Dorial Green-Beckham and Stefon Diggs, don't forget about the top 4-star prospects.

They can have immediate impacts, too. Just look at Braxton Miller (Ohio State) or Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Washington) last season.

Getting five stars is nice, but sometimes four is just spicy enough. Here's a look at where the best remaining 4-star recruits will land.

Thomas Johnson, WR

Johnson is set to announce today at 11:20 a.m. EST, and his top schools are Cal, Oregon, TCU and Texas A&M.

I think the Dallas native will stay close to home, so go ahead and eliminate Cal and Oregon, though you can't completely disregard the Nike and Chip Kelly factors at OU.

That leaves TCU and Texas A&M. While TCU's entrance into the Big 12 is big for recruiting, A&M seems to be the leader and Johnson will want to join an already-stacked class.

Prediction: Texas A&M

Leonard Williams, DE

The big defensive end was originally thought to have a top five of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, USC and Miami, but he recently moved it to a final two.

Florida and USC.

Williams used to live in California, so he has ties to USC, but he now lives in Daytona Beach and is apparently a Gators fan, so the ties to Florida are clear as well.

Advantage, Gators.

Williams will announce his decision today.

Prediction: Florida

Ronald Darby, DB

Darby may be making his decision tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. EST, but he hasn't quite narrowed it down as much as most kids.

Still in the mix are Arizona, Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Maryland and Notre Dame.

Phew. The kid from Maryland has some work to do.

Obviously the University of Maryland is the hometown favorite, but they don't necessarily have the prestige of an Auburn, Clemson, FSU or ND.

I think the fact that Darby originally committed to Notre Dame a month ago and then re-opened his recruitment means the Irish are an unlikely choice.

After that, the Seminoles appear to be favorites over Auburn and Clemson.

Prediction: Florida State
