Mario Edwards Gives Florida State Seminoles Reason to Celebrate
National Signing Day will come and go with a few surprises being dealt in the process. As for Mario Edwards and Florida State, the commitment still remains for what is still a perfect match.
It is easy to think that some things are too good to be true. Just ask Mack Brown, who has seen a number of recruits flip flop, or Les Miles, who has seen a top recruit in Gunner Kiel instead promise to suit up for Notre Dame.
Its time to let out a sigh if you are a proud Seminole, because all signs point to Edwards making good on his word.
Rivals has Edwards as the No. 3 ranked recruit in the nation and his status as a soft verbal commitment.
Well, at some point in the near future, that soft verbal should get a signature. Edwards even went so far as to tweet his re-commitment on Jan. 23.
It makes perfect sense that Edwards would fully commit his youth to Florida State. This is a defensive end that already has the size and power to commit out of the gate.
The one last piece of the puzzle is a program that could groom him for the next level, because Edwards has that kind of promise to already start thinking about life as a quarterback killer.
To that point, Matt Hayes of The Sporting News writes:
"When Mark Stoops arrived at Florida State in 2010, his first priority was defensive line and improving the Seminoles’ pass rush. In the last two seasons, FSU has 88 sacks and has developed top pass rushers off the edge (Brandon Jenkins, Bjoern Werner).
"
Hayes does well to point out that Edwards is more physically gifted than Jenkins and Werner were coming in. So you can only imagine what we might be looking at in a season or two.
The Seminoles may be building a bit of a legacy of big mean ends that collect tackles for loss and sacks by the boatload.
A long and fruitful stint at Florida State will guarantee that Edwards comes away as one of the most gifted and well-coached ends in the nation.
Edwards already has that in his sights, and that is reason to believe he will not second-guess what was the right decision the first time around.
