Thomas Johnson to Texas A&M: Aggies Land 4-Star WR Prospect
It's official: Four-star wide receiver Thomas Johnson is headed to Texas A&M.
In his senior season at Skyline in Dallas, Texas, Johnson caught 59 passes for 1,077 yards, 13 touchdowns and rushed 16 times for 226 yards and four scores. Johnson was ranked as the 33rd-overall prospect in the ESPNU 150.
Johnson had narrowed down his choices to California, Oregon, TCU and Texas A&M before settling on the Aggies. He had originally committed to Texas before changing his mind in early January.
Though only only 6'0" and 180 pounds, Johnson is an explosive athlete and is a dangerous runner after the catch. He was extremely impressive at the Under Armour All-America Game practices, namely when he worked in the slot, as Jamie Newberg of ESPN noted:
"He has better size than most slot receivers and he's so dynamic with the ball in his hands—even when he's banged up.
"I have explosion," Johnson said. "I catch the ball really well and run good routes. I take pride in that. I can also get yards after the catch."
"
Johnson will make a nice addition to the high-powered Aggies offense. There might be some drop in production overall with quarterback Ryan Tannehill going to the NFL, but landing an elite playmaker on the outside like Johnson will take some of the sting away.
