Darius Hamilton to Rutgers: Scarlet Knights Land 5-Star DE Prospect
Darius Hamilton was recruited by and held offers from nearly every school in the country. In the end, it came down to only two.
According to Rivals.com, Hamilton has chosen to play college football at Rutgers:
The 6'4", 245-pounder is the No. 11 player in the country according to Rivals and the No. 20 player according to Scout.
The son of former NFL star Keith Hamilton finished his senior season at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey with 21 sacks. He helped the Ironmen finish the year ranked second in the nation.
Hamilton took official visits to Florida, Rutgers, California and Miami before deciding to join Rutgers.
The incoming freshman will make an immediate impact at the collegiate level and has the potential to be a NFL-type player. At only 245 pounds, he still has plenty of room to grow into his 6'4" frame, but he's technically sound and, according to his high school coach Greg Toal, has elite hands. Toal also thinks he'll shift to the interior of the D-line when all is said and done:
"They’re going to get a heckuva player and hecukva leader and great person. He’s probably the best (Toal has coached) as far use of his hands ... He’s a d-tackle.
"
Again, at 6'4", that isn't a bad thing at all. With a collegiate training program, he'll add muscle rather quickly and shouldn't have trouble adapting to the game at the next level.
It won't be surprising if he starts his career with the Scarlet Knights at strong-side defensive end, but as he matures he'll likely kick back inside.
Rutgers landed themselves an elite recruit in their 2012 recruiting class, and don't surprised if you hear his name early next year.
