Stefon Diggs: Power Ranking Best Landing Spots for 5-Star Athlete
Stefon Digs is arguably the most talented athlete in the class of 2012, but nobody knows where he will be playing college football.
According to Rivals and Scout.com, Diggs is a 5-star athlete. He has kept quiet about which team is in the lead, but USA Today reports that Auburn, California, Florida, Maryland and Ohio State are his "most prominent pursuers."
Rivals lists those schools as his top five, and he's made official visits to them all except for Maryland.
Diggs will make his decision on Feb. 10 as opposed to announcing on Feb. 1, or National Signing Day. It's the first day recruits can sign their national letters of intent to schools, and most uncommitted recruits pick a school that day.
Listed at 6'0", 185 pounds, Diggs will take his time to make his choice, and there is nothing wrong with that. Whatever school he picks will be extremely happy, though, because Diggs's skills are extremely good.
He has the talent to play wide receiver or running back at the next level, and you can expect to see his blazing speed on full display in the return game.
With that said, here are the three best landing spots for Diggs.
1. Ohio State
With Urban Meyer as head coach, the Buckeyes are bound for greatness. He is an excellent recruiter, as well as a very good coach, and is the main reason Ohio State is the best place for Diggs to go.
Diggs is certain to see the field of play as a freshman no matter where he ends up, but he would thrive more under Meyer's direction. With Dan Herron and DeVier Posey gone, the Buckeyes need explosiveness. The offense struggled at times last year, but the addition of Diggs would greatly help.
His skills are similar to Percy Harvin's, and those avid college football fans are well aware of how much success Meyer had with Harvin. Meyer will use Diggs in all facets of his offense, and it will not only help the team win, but also entice more recruits to join the Buckeyes.
Since the Buckeyes are the last school Diggs visited, I think they have a slight edge over everyone else. Although having Meyer should be enough to separate the Buckeyes from the competition, it's up to Diggs to make the final call.
2. Florida
Will Muschamp enters his second season as the Gators head coach, and after losing Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey, he needs some firepower for the 2012 season and beyond.
Diggs can certainly be the player to step in and make an immediate impact. The majority of ESPN experts believe Diggs will land with Florida, which has to bring a smile to Gators' fans everywhere.
Florida has a major need for an offensive playmaker, and Muschamp would definitely give Diggs plenty of opportunities.
New offensive coordinator Brent Pease, who came from Boise State, could certainly use Diggs to help showcase that he was a good hire.
Playing in the SEC East, Diggs will fare better than most places, which is why the Gators are at the top of his best landing spots.
3. Auburn
After visiting with the Tigers, Diggs told The Huntsville Times that the Tigers were his best visit yet.
Of course, he then went and visited Florida and then to Ohio State, so his opinion could have easily changed. We'll obviously find out when he makes his decision.
With Michael Dyer transferring, the Tigers will look to Onterio McCalebb to carry the load, but they're going to need someone else too.
Auburn has had great success with utilizing multiple running backs, and they would definitely let Diggs get the ball early and often. Diggs is a difference maker that is dangerous in space, which makes him so highly coveted.
The Tigers fall to No. 3 on this list because playing in the SEC West is much harder than the other teams. Plus, Diggs is more likely to shine bright right away at the other schools than he is at Auburn because of McCalebb.
