Dorial Green-Beckham: Who's Really Winning the Race to Sign the No. 1 Recruit?
With national signing day being less than 24 hours away, fans and the media are both searching for any possible clues to see where some of these top players will play their college football. Waiting for the official announcement can't seem to come quick enough for this media age.
While we are interested in where a lot of these players will end up, nobody is more interesting than wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. When you're 6'6", 220 pounds and run a 40 time in the 4.4 range, you're going to receive some attention. Some are already comparing him to Randy Moss and he hasn't even stepped field on a college field yet.
He has received offers from nearly every top school in the country but has more interest in schools like Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri, although the Tigers and Razorbacks have remained the favorites throughout the whole recruiting process.
Many believed that the Arkansas Razorbacks were the favorite for his services. He had nothing but good things to say about his visit to Arkansas, it's close to home and adding him to an already explosive offense would help create one of the top offenses in the country. Nearly every recruiting expert on recruiting websites had predicted he would end up in an Arkansas uniform.
But then yesterday came, and everything seemed to change.
This tweet shocked the college football world and now everybody is having second thoughts on their predictions for the nation's top recruit. Although Green-Beckham's coach and adoptive father has denied that he has made a decision, many are starting to believe he will end up a Missouri Tiger.
I don't put much into the denial of the report. It may be true, it may not be, but it's always going to be denied when news is released before the actual commitment is announced. Green-Beckham is scheduled to make an announcement on national signing day. It wasn't that day, so anything that is announced beforehand will be denied, regardless of whether it's true or not.
Green-Beckham is from Missouri, and it seems like the home team is really starting to lock up the advantage in what seems to be a two-team race. When fans show love like this and show that they would love for him to stay home, it really makes a decision worth thinking about. (Video courtesy of Ryan Shiner)
So what school is he really favoring?
At the end of the day nobody really knows for sure. All we can do is guess and go from what we see and what our gut tells us. Until we actually hear from Green-Beckham's mouth on where he will play football, it will remain a mystery.
I do know that sources aren't usually wrong when it comes to situations like this. And for the tables to turn this drastically, it's extremely likely that he's favoring the home school. There weren't too many people that had him committing to Missouri a couple of days ago. It's also true that the last school a prospect visits will have a slight advantage. The visit remains fresh in the mind, and it's the last thing the player sees before making his decision.
Missouri has really done everything it possibly can to try to land one of the top young players we've seen in recent memory. If you ask me, I think it is the favorite for his services, but nobody really knows for sure.
There's only one way to settle this, and that's on national signing day when Green-Beckham tells the world where he will play his college football.
