Ohio State Football Recruiting 2012: What CB Armani Reeves Brings to the Table
Urban Meyer and Ohio State received a huge boost for the future when cornerback Armani Reeves committed to the team via Twitter.
Reeves is rated the No. 6 cornerback in the country according to Scout.com and, just as importantly, he selected the Buckeyes over rival Michigan.
This almost works as a two-player swing for Ohio State, since it gets a great athlete and he does not face the team during the season.
Reeves originally committed to Penn State, but the scandal that shook the school influenced him to make a different decision.
The cornerback is an incredible athlete known primarily for his speed, running the 40-yard dash in only 4.41 seconds. Standing at only 5'10", he will need to utilize this quickness to stay with some of the more athletic receivers in the Big Ten.
Although he could have played on either side of the football, the Massachusetts native should receive playing time on defense right away. Ohio State recently released two defensive backs, Dominic Clarke and DerJuan Gambrell, for breaking team rules.
This left only three cornerbacks on the roster for next season, a big draw for a player looking to make an immediate impact at the college level.
Even if he does not start on defense in his first season in Columbus, it is very likely Reeves will make an impact on special teams. He is very dangerous with the ball in his hands and has the ability to score from anywhere on the field.
Comparing his height and ability to make impact plays, he could be Ohio State's version of Tyrann Mathieu.
After such a terrible year for the program, Buckeyes fans are starting to finally get some good news for the future. The addition of Reeves gives Ohio State the No. 3 overall class behind Texas and Alabama.
With Urban Meyer, it seems that anything is possible.
