Nicholas GossJan 28, 2012

The 2012 NHL Skills Competition will showcase the game's best stars, and the enormous amount of rookies and young players who will take part in the festivities will help fans get to know tomorrow's superstar talents.

The league has done a wonderful job of ensuring at least one rookie will participate for each team in all of the six events at the skills competition.

Let's take a look at three young stars you must watch at the skills competition Saturday night in Ottawa.

Tyler Seguin, C, Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins sophomore forward is the most talented offensive player on the defending Stanley Cup champions, ranking second on the team in points and first in goals.

His captain at the All-Star festivities is his Bruins captain, defenseman Zdeno Chara. Chara has chosen Seguin to take part in the accuracy-shooting and elimination-shootout competitions on Saturday.

Seguin has amazing speed and his dangling ability is world-class. He will be very exciting to watch in the shootout event, which is the final competition of the evening.

His accurate wrist shot will also make him a real threat to dethrone Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin as champion of the accuracy-shooting competition.

John Tavares, C, New York Islanders

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NHL draft is one of the best young players in hockey and has become a real star with his tremendous play in recent months.

John Tavares leads the Islanders with 49 points on 20 goals and 29 assists, and is a legitimate offensive star.

Tavares will participate in the breakaway challenge and the skills-challenge relay for Team Alfredsson on Saturday night. Be sure to watch Tavares at the skills competition and follow his progress as a great young player with the Islanders.

Cody Hodgson, C, Vancouver Canucks

The young Vancouver Canucks forward is an exceptional offensive player and is giving his team some scoring from their bottom two lines that they did not get enough of in the playoffs last season.

While teammates Daniel and Henrik Sedin and Alexander Edler were not selected by Team Chara, which was a topic of discussion going into the All-Star fantasy draft because of the Canucks and Bruins rivalry, Hodgson is on Team Chara as one of the rookies.

Hodgson will participate in the accuracy-shooting event along with Team Chara teammate Tyler Seguin, and is a young player you must pay attention to at the skills competition.
