Senior Bowl 2012 Roster: Top SEC Prospects Destined to Break out for South
There will be a number of talented NFL draft prospects suiting up Saturday afternoon for the 2012 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama (4:00 PM ET, NFL Network), but only a select few will steal the show with breakout performances.
The South side will boast a plethora of SEC skill and ability when it takes on the North in one of the top pre-draft events of the year. But which of the SEC's best are ready to prove their worth against the nation's best?
Here are the top SEC prospects destined to break out for the South at the 2012 Senior Bowl:
Jake Bequette, DE/LB, Arkansas
Arkansas' Jake Bequette can do almost anything he wants on the football field at 6'4", 264 pounds. Bequette is a lock to go to an NFL team in need of an outside rusher or dominant run stopper off the edge.
Bequette can shed blockers and bring down the biggest of backs. He also finished the 2011 season with 10 sacks, including this crushing take down of South Carolina's Connor Shaw in November.
Bequette is a high-character and high-motor player that will make his presence felt at this year's Senior Bowl.
Cordy Glenn, OT/OG, Georgia
At 6'5", 346 pounds, Georgia's Cordy Glenn is as enormous as he is versatile on the offensive line. Glenn has been switched around from tackle to guard on numerous occasions and has wowed in each role.
He is expected to play mostly tackle on Saturday, and if so, he will be a one-man wrecking crew because he can shut down the best of pass-rushers and be a force downfield in the running game.
Barring any significant injury, Glenn's performance at this January's Senior Bowl all but ensures he will be an NFL starter in 2012.
Melvin Ingram, DE/LB, South Carolina
Ingram finished tied with Arkansas' Jake Bequette for ninth in the nation in sacks with 10 for the season in 2011. However, Ingram was the only sack leader in the Top 50 to also record multiple interceptions.
He is extremely versatile and can play virtually every defensive position, minus the secondary. Ingram will likely be moved around a lot on Saturday, and he can bring solid pressure from the defensive end or outside linebacker position, as well as from defensive tackle at 276 pounds.
Since the coaches are well aware of Ingram's football ability and versatility, expect for him to wreak havoc on the North's offense while boosting his draft stock in the process.
