Senior Bowl 2012: Big-Name Players Guaranteed to Falter

Nicholas GossJun 7, 2018

The Senior Bowl is a great chance for NFL prospects to improve their draft stock before the scouting combine in a few months, but for some players, faltering at the Senior Bowl can really cost them.

A bad Senior Bowl performance can turn a possible first-round pick into a third- or fourth-round selection in April's NFL Draft. Let's look at three big-name players guaranteed to falter at Saturday's senior bowl.

1) Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore had a lot to gain at the Senior Bowl this week, but in the practices, he looked bad and did not show the arm strength scouts want to see in NFL quarterbacks.

Moore's size is a disadvantage as he's under 6'0" tall, so he had to show he could make up for that with good passing fundamentals. After a bad week at the Senior Bowl thus far, Moore has to impress mightily on Saturday to improve his draft stock.

Moore will struggle to impress the scouts at the Senior Bowl game, and a bad performance could lead to him not being drafted at all in April.

2) Russell Wilson, QB, Wisconsin

Russell Wilson had a great season at Wisconsin, but his clock management gaffe at the end of the Rose Bowl was not a good display of time management to NFL scouts.

At the Senior Bowl this week, Wilson has not impressed at all. His passing accuracy has been below par, and this is a huge red flag for scouts. Against much better defenses in the NFL than he saw in the Big Ten this season, Wilson would struggle mightily with his inability to be accurate.

His strong arm is one thing he has going for him, but unless he's accurate, he won't be drafted. A poor Senior Bowl performance on Saturday will hurt Wilson's draft stock heading into the combine.

3) Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M

Jeff Fuller did not help his draft stock this week because of his inability to catch the ball consistently in the senior bowl practices.

Despite his good size, Fuller did not show the quality catching ability he displayed for much of the season at Texas A&M.

Fuller doesn't have a ton of speed either, so he must work on his quickness leading up to the draft. With a bad Senior Bowl performance on Saturday, Fuller will hurt his draft stock.
