Predicting Every NBA Team's Best Player in 2 Years
Here's a look at the future for every NBA franchise as we take a look at who will be the best player on each NBA franchise.
We're only considering guys currently on each roster, so no predicting future free agent signings or draft picks, but in certain instances I will take into account that certain players have no chance of remaining in their current clubs.
So let's jump right into it and take a look at who will be the best player on each NBA team in two years.
Atlanta Hawks
1 of 30Josh Smith
Joe Johnson will still be in Atlanta during the 2013-14 season but it's Smith who will be the Hawks best all-around player.
He is an unrestricted free agent that season, but it will be difficult for the Hawks to allow him to walk.
Smith will be a consistent double-double for years to come.
Boston Celtics
2 of 30Rajon Rondo
He's probably upped his status to Boston's best player already, but two years from now the Big Three will be no more and the Celtics will without a doubt be Rondo's team.
Charlotte Bobcats
3 of 30Kemba Walker
Easy choice here considering Charlotte's roster doesn't have a whole lot of talent that has a chance to be stars in the future.
Walker is the exception though.
Two years from now he should be a productive backcourt scorer and the best player on the Bobcats roster.
Chicago Bulls
4 of 30The reigning MVP will still be one of the best players in the league two years from now, so that easily makes him Chicago's best player still.
The only question is will he have a second MVP trophy on his mantle by then.
Cleveland Cavaliers
5 of 30Kyrie Irving
Irving has proven himself worthy of being the No. 1 pick in last summer's draft and if he's not already, he will be the face of the Cleveland Cavaliers in two years.
By the time the 2013-14 season rolls around, Irving should have already made his first All-Star appearance.
Dallas Mavericks
6 of 30Dirk Nowitzki
Looking at the Mavs current roster, there isn't much to get excited about two years from now. They obviously will have to add free agent talent in order to keep this team competitive.
The good news is that they are in a position to do so.
Nowitzki gets the nod as the Mavericks best player two years from now, but there is a chance he calls it quits by then.
If he's around though, even a 35-year old Nowitzki with over 15 years of mileage on his legs will be better then anything else currently on their roster.
Denver Nuggets
7 of 30Danilo Gallinari
Within two season's, Gallinari has the chance to be a multiple time all-star and could grow into a franchise type player.
Denver is a good young team, but Gallinari is the best of a talented group. Within two years, he should be a consistent 20 point per game type scorer.
Detroit Pistons
8 of 30Greg Monroe
He's coming along nicely now, but two years from now, the Pistons will have themselves a dominant big man in Monroe.
He's close to being a double-double guy right now, two years from now he will be a force in the paint.
Golden State Warriors
9 of 30Monta Ellis
The constant ankle injuries of Stephen Curry has me worried, but even though Ellis has a player option for the 2013-14 season, barring a trade he will remain the best player in Golden State.
He's already one of the best backcourt scorers in the NBA and two years from now he has the ability to become an elite scoring guard.
Houston Rockets
10 of 30Kyle Lowry
Two years from now, you won't be able to have a discussion about the best point guards in the NBA without including Lowry's name.
He will be a big reason why Kevin McHale's Rockets could become a factor in the Western Conference.
Indiana Pacers
11 of 30Paul George
Everything I said about Monroe earlier applies to Roy Hibbert even more.
He's a guy the Pacers can continue to build around for years to come. Within two years, Hibbert has the talent to become one of the most dominant big men in the Eastern Conference.
Hibbert's a restricted free agent next season, but there's no way Indiana can let him walk away.
As good as Hibbert will be though, it's George that will be the Pacers best player in two years.
George is a natural scorer who within time should be able to fill the stat sheet and lead the Pacers.
Los Angeles Clippers
12 of 30Blake Griffin
It could be scary to see how good Griffin can become over the next two seasons. He has the athletic ability to do whatever he wants against pretty much anyone he wants.
His numbers are sick and can keep getting better and paired with Chris Paul both Griffin and the Clippers can be very good the next couple of seasons.
Los Angeles Lakers
13 of 30Andrew Bynum
If this Andrew Byrnum is the one that the Lakers have in two seasons, then the Lakers will simply have one of the top handful of big men in the NBA.
As long as Bynum continues to progress in this fashion, he's in store for big things.
Memphis Grizzlies
14 of 30Marc Gasol
The Grizzlies did the right thing by signing the restricted free agent during the offseason. Now they will reap the benefits.
Gasol is a solid double-double right now and is getting it done at both ends of the floor. He's only going to get much better within two years time.
Miami Heat
15 of 30There's no real explanation needed here. Miami has the best player in the NBA now and will have him during the 2013-14 season as well.
Milwaukee Bucks
16 of 30Brandon Jennings
Jennings is become one of the NBA's better point guards and by the 2013-14 season, he could be one of the NBA's best.
He's definitely the best thing Milwaukee has.
Jennings will be a restricted free agent in two years, but there is no way the Bucks can let him get away.
Minnesota Timberwolves
17 of 30Kevin Love
Ricky Rubio is a fantastic young guard, but now that they have Love signed to an extension, he's guaranteed to be around two years from now.
Love is a dominant big man now and can be even better in two years.
Not too many guys in the NBA are capable of averaging 25.3 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
The future looks bright in Minnesota.
New Jersey Nets
18 of 30Marshon Brooks
We just don't know how the Deron Williams and Dwight Howard situations will play out, but the Nets have a potential star in the making in Brooks.
Brooks can fill it up and a couple years from now there is no reason to think he can't be close to a 20 point per game type scorer.
New Orleans Hornets
19 of 30Eric Gordon
You have to think David Stern won't let Gordon walk away as a restricted free agent before the 2013-14 season.
If he gets healthy eventually Gordon is talented enough to be the Hornets best player and form a decent backcourt in New Orleans with Jarrett Jack, who will be an unrestricted free agent before that season.
New York Knicks
20 of 30Something will happen before the 2013-14 season that will lead to the Knicks figuring things out and Anthony will be a major part of that.
He definitely will still be the best player in New York, along with being one of the best players in the NBA as well.
Oklahoma City Thunder
21 of 30Kevin Durant
Easy choice in Oklahoma City. The only question is can Durant claim the title of best player in the NBA within the next two seasons.
Orlando Magic
22 of 30Ryan Anderson
Dwight Howard will probably be gone and there isn't much else on the Orlando roster right now that they probably even want around in two years, so the nod goes to Anderson, who's in the middle of a career season.
He's not a guy you typically want to build a team around, but given the current situation in Orlando, Anderson will be their best player in two years.
Philadelphia 76ers
23 of 30Jrue Holliday
The Sixers have a couple nice young pieces, including Thaddeus Young, but Holliday is the choice here.
Holliday is a big and quick point guard who's improving each season. He's going to be a force at both ends of the floor.
Holliday is a restricted free agent prior to the 2013-14 season and should be a big reason why the Sixers should be able to compete in the Eastern Conference for the next few seasons.
Phoenix Suns
24 of 30Markieff Morris
With the Suns rebuilding, they have a pair of good pieces to go forward with in Morris and Marcin Gortat.
With Morris they have a tough big man with a solid mid-range game who has the opportunity to get better and possibly flourish by the 2013-14 season.
Portland Trail Blazers
25 of 30LaMarcus Aldridge
Aldridge is a beast. If he's not already, within two years he will prove he's a franchise-type player.
He's a dominant big man who should be a household name by the time the 2013-14 season rolls around.
Sacramento Kings
26 of 30DeMarcus Cousins
He's a handful and has a ton of baggage, but he's also a talented big who's going to be a double-double machine.
Within two years, hopefully Cousins matures. He has the ability to be awfully good.
San Antonio Spurs
27 of 30Kawhi Leonard
I'm considering San Antonio's Big Three to be done or at least on their last legs by the time the 2013-14 season rolls around.
I considered giving this spot to Tiago Splitter, who could be a productive NBA big man in a couple of seasons, but he will be an unrestricted free agent before the 2013-14 season and there is no guarantee he will be in San Antonio still.
So we go with Leonard, who has the talent to grow into a very good NBA player at both ends of the floor.
He's long, which should make him solid on the defensive end end offensively he's going to be a good finisher and rebounder.
Toronto Raptors
28 of 30Andrea Bargnani
With all due respect to DeMar DeRozan who has the ability to be a star, Bargnani was showing signs of domination before his calf injury sidelined him.
If he can maintain that play for the next couple of seasons, Bargnani will be one of the best big men in the Eastern Conference.
Utah Jazz
29 of 30Derrick Favors
Eventually, Utah will create enough minutes for Favors, who's improving in his second season.
His offensive game is still a bit raw, but he can become a solid post defender.
Two years from now, it's likely that favors puts it all together and becomes a legitimate big man.
Washington Wizards
30 of 30The former No. 1 pick will be the face of the Washington Wizards for years to come and while he's putting up solid enough numbers right now, he could put up outstanding numbers in two years if the wizards get some talent around him.
