NBA Daily Worst: Carmelo Anthony Puts Up a Dud and More
Welcome back to the Daily Worst, where we ignore those insufferable "Top Plays" and focus on the worst of the worst. Get weary of all those top 10 reels? Not here! Of course, our standard disclaimer is that no players or teams were hated in the production of this article. They earned their way onto this.
Today, we've got a bit of dunk theme going. First, though, let's look at how you're supposed to defend a dunk. Look at No. 10, which should be No. 1. That's the standard.
Now look at Anderson Varajao's "effort" here as he "cavalierly" defends LeBron James dunk.
Then, on this one, James needed to get dunked on like he needs a kick to the head. Watch at the end, and you'll see he actually appears to have gotten a kick to the head on the follow through.
Finally, it's not so much Gerald Henderson's defense that's at question here. He nearly got the steal and didn't have the time to recover. It's Byron Mullens, who was out of position anyway, which is why you've got Henderson helping there, but then Mullens doesn't even try to return the favor. Maybe he just got tired of being dunked on. Chandler abused the rim last night.
Daily Awards
Apparently, Chandler needed to abuse the rim last night too, as his teammates, Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert, went a combined 1-of-16 from the field to be our co-recipients of the Upchucker Award, given to the players who are shooting so often and so poorly it makes you want to vomit.
It was the worst scoring night of Anthony's career. He came away with one point. He saw his scoring average drop a full point and a half. Knicks fans are going to think I'm harping on this, but that's only because I am. Anthony and Mike D' Antoni do not work together.
Today's Bakers Award, given to the player who makes the most turnovers, goes to Raymond Felton, who had six, to go with two assists, which is a really bad assist-to-turnover ratio. I think he actually had more assists to the Grizzlies than the Trail Blazers, and that's downright grizzly! Watch the result of one of those turnovers here.
