National Signing Day 2012: The Top 5 Teams Who'll Be Big Winners on NSD
National Signing Day is next Wednesday and we will culminate a full year of this 2012 recruiting cycle. It's a huge day, as the next stars of college football will be coming into the fold.
Some teams will see their day not go as planned, while others will be big-time winners. I'm going to give you five teams that I think will be winners on NSD.
Let's start this up!
5. Michigan
1 of 5Once Michigan signs this class on NSD, the Wolverines have to be winners. Twenty-four prospects are committed, and they are in the hunt for a few more elite recruits.
But, think about it: Michigan has won a BCS bowl, had double-digit wins and could be a top 5-10 team next year. Just a year ago, this program was thought to be far from competing for anything.
Now, Brady Hoke will sign an elite recruiting class next Wednesday. That's a winner.
4. Texas
2 of 5Texas had the No. 1 class for most of the year, but a surge by my next team has put them in the second slot. However, they have to be winners for signing a top-five class after having a consecutive sub-par season.
I don't know how Mack Brown has done it, but even with un-Texas-like seasons on the field for the past two years, he's still hauled in elite classes.
3. Alabama
3 of 5The champs have the No. 1 class in the country and could indeed finish as BCS champs and recruiting champs. Clearly, just on that alone, they go down as winners for NSD.
Nick Saban has had Alabama among the top juggernauts on the trail since he's been there, and this year was no different. Say what you want about Saban, but he's the best at what he does right now, bar none.
2. Florida State
4 of 5The Seminoles had a disappointing season. Period. Many, including themselves, felt they were a BCS team, and they flamed out in the middle of the season.
However, it's still remarkable that they could find themselves in the top five of the recruiting rankings on NSD. But then again, they easily could fall out, depending on what 5-star DE Mario Edwards and 5-star QB Jameis Winston do.
1. Florida
5 of 5I've said it many times before and I'll say it again, there is a solid chance Florida could end up with the No.1 class. It sits inside the top five now, but is in the mix for several top-tier prospects.
Some of them include CB Tracy Howard, ATH Nelson Agholor, WR Stefon Diggs, OT Kyle Murphy, DL Darius Hamilton, OT Avery Young, ATH Josh Harvey Clemons, WR Jaquay Williams and DE Leonard Williams.
See what I mean?
