NASCAR's Busch Brothers Form a Monster of a Team That May Be Bad News

Sandra MacWattersJun 5, 2018

The Busch Brothers of NASCAR have teamed together at Kyle Busch Motorsports, with Kurt Busch assuming driving duties for his younger brother in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with a sponsor well-suited for the two.

It was announced today that Monster Energy will be the primary sponsor of the new  No. 54 Toyota for KBM under a multi-year agreement.

Accomplished veteran crew chief Mike Beam will bring his wealth of talent to the new team.

Kurt Busch will be driving some races for his new Cup Series team, Phoenix Racing, in the Nationwide Series beginning with Daytona.

It has not been determined exactly how many races the older Busch will run for Phoenix Racing, but the new team owned by the younger Busch will run all 33 Nationwide races on the schedule with the two brothers sharing driving duties.

Kyle Busch will be running this car for the Nationwide owner's championship. He will not be driving a car in the second-tier series of NASCAR for Joe Gibbs Racing.

The older Busch will likely drive a few more races than his younger sibling, but regardless of which brother is behind the wheel, the No. 54 car could be bad news for other competitors in the series.

Kyle is scheduled to run the first four Nationwide races and then turn the car over to his brother.

He has won 51 races in the Nationwide Series, the most of any driver ever. The senior Busch has run only 12 races in this series, but he won three and has 10 top-10 finishes.

Just as Carl Edwards bows out of participation with the Nationwide Series and the young guns start getting their footing in Victory Lane, the KBM team could roll in and dominate the races. At least, that is their plan.

The Busch brothers have become the "Bad Boys" of NASCAR with their antics at the racetrack that have proven costly to both. Now they are going to let their racing do the talking, and with the combined talent of the two drivers, it should speak volumes.

After a wreck in the 2007 All-Star race, the two brothers stopped speaking to one another. It took a talk from their grandmother at Thanksgiving to get the two back together.

The personalities of the two can both be explosive, but if that energy can be channeled into winning races, we could see some very impressive performances out of the new team.

We never know what to expect from the Busch brothers, but since both need to redeem themselves this season in the Cup Series, you have to wonder if the two really will play well together on the new KBM Monster Energy team.
