Floyd Mayweather to Jail: 5 Reasons It Will Make Money Hungrier to Face Manny
Even with all of the talk of a possible May 5th fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, we all know it isn't happening before Money May starts his 90-day jail sentence on June 1st.
With the reality that we could possibly see the megafight sometime in November—if Mayweather indeed gets out of the slammer in 60 days for good behavior—the time spent in jail will make Mayweather hungrier than ever to land that elusive fight with Pacquiao.
Here are the five reasons that Maywaether's jail stint will make him want a fight with Pacquiao more than ever.
1. Less Than Mega-Fight Before Jail
1 of 5In all likelihood Floyd Mayweather will face either Canelo Alvarez or Robert Guerrero for is May 5th bout. The average sports fan will have little interest in either of those two fights, leaving with a sense of urgency heading into his jail time.
The boxing world will only take so much and as time goes on, the audience for Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's fights with lesser opponents will become increasingly smaller and smaller with each fight.
The talk will only build while Mayweather is in jail, not being able to voice his opinion on what's being said while he is in the clinker, which will make getting the megafight to come to fruition shortly after his jail stint more valuable to Money May's career than ever.
2. Lack of Attention While Locked Up
2 of 5When Floyd Mayweather is serving his jail time, the welterweight champ will not be able to keep himself in the public spotlight.
As we all know form the various social media outlets that Money May uses, he loves to have all eyes on him, and this need for attention will only intensify once Mayweather is released form jail.
Look for Mayweather to be more visible than ever once he is let out. This includes being more vocal than ever, trying to get the megafight with Manny Pacquiao signed as soon as possible.
3. Time to Reflect on His Career
3 of 5While Floyd Mayweather is serving his jail time, there is no doubt that he will have plenty of time to reflect on his career and life in general, which could lead him to acknowledging that his albeit great career is missing that one larger-than-life fight that will define his career.
With the realization that he needs Manny Pacquiao as much as Pacquiao needs him, this will make Mayweather do everything in his power to finally make everyone's dream fight a reality.
4. To Finally Get the Monkey of His Back
4 of 5No matter what Floyd Mayweather does in his career going forward, if he doesn't fight Manny Pacquiao, anything else he does won't matter if he never proves himself against the other top pound-for-pound great of his generation.
Mayweather could beat every up-and-coming fighter and retain his perfect record, but none of those fights could cement his place among boxing's elite as much as a fight with Pacquiao while the two are at their peak.
As we have seen over the past few years, the two have been speculated to fight, no matter what either fighter does. Everything always leads to talk of their possible megafight—something that won't go away no matter how much time goes by.
5. What Else? Money.
5 of 5There is nothing in the world that Floyd Mayweather loves more than what he is nicknamed after—Money.
As we have seen with other high-profile athletes going to jail, they usually come out with some kind of money issue and with how Money May spends his money, he just might need that huge payday with Manny Pacquiao to ease his financial pains for good.
The megafight is supposed to net both fighter's anywhere from $50-$100 million and could give Mayweather some much needed financial security once getting out of jail and being away from money-making opportunities for two-to-three months—depending on if he is released early from jail or not.
In the end the Mayweather and Pacquiao deal most likely will have a rematch clause in the contract, giving both fighters the chance to earn anywhere from $100-$200 million dollars off a series of fights once it is all said and done.
