Michigan Football Recruiting: Which Prep Stars Are Still in Wolverines Picture?

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

Brady Hoke continues to build a strong 2012 recruiting class for the Michigan Wolverines, but with National Signing Day quickly approaching, there are still plenty of top-notch recruits on his radar.

Now is the time for Hoke to go full throttle to land more prospects and climb up the class rankings.

This will be Hoke's first recruiting class as head coach of the Wolverines and it needs to be special. There were skeptics that doubted Hoke upon getting hired, but they dwindled away once he started winning.

Hoke now has the chance to squash all his doubters by bringing in a superb recruiting class for 2012.

With that said, here are three prospects that Michigan still has a chance to land.

Joshua Garnett, OT

Viewed as one of the top offensive lineman in the country, Garnett has the size and strength to thrive at Michigan. Since Hoke is transitioning more toward the run game, he needs to secure stellar lineman to help strengthen the future of the ground and pound.

Listed at 6'5" 295 lbs, Garnett will easily bulk up once he hits a college workout routine.

The Wolverines already have a few solid offensive lineman in their class, but Garnett would push them over the top and help make Michigan even better.

Garnett has had offers pour in from all over the place, but he narrowed them down to three schools. According to reports, Garnett will pick from Michigan, Stanford or Notre Dame on Jan. 26.

Jordan Payton, WR

The 4-star wideout is committed to Cal, but recent coaching departures has opened his recruitment back up.

Adam Gorney of Rivals tweeted the news about which schools Payton is considering.

Both Eric Kiesau and Tosh Lupoi left Cal for Washington, which was forced Payton to think about things different. Kiesau would have been Payton's position coach and Lupoi was his main recruiter.

The Wolverines need to continue to stack up on talented receivers for the future, especially since they're losing a couple.

Payton is listed at 6'2" 200 pounds and his vertical skills and great hands really stand out, which is why Hoke needs to fight hard to steal this recruit away from Cal.

Armani Reeves, CB

Michigan already has one talented cornerback recruit in Terry Richardson, but adding Reeves to the mix would give the Wolverines much better depth in the secondary.

Reeves is currently committed to play at Penn State, but give the recent scandal he has backed off some and took a visit to Michigan this past weekend.

Rivals compares Reeves to Asante Samuel, which is very high praise. Reeves spent a lot of time with defensive coordinator Greg Mattison during his trip and told Rivals that he is aware the Wolverines really want him.

No verbal commit is safe these days in college football, and since the secondary was the weakest spot on the defense this past season Hoke and the Wolverines must continue to pursue Reeves away from Penn State.
