Tottenham January Transfers: 6 Spurs Rumours of the Week
Something must be up at Tottenham. We are more than halfway through the January transfer window and Spurs have hardly been linked with any new players.
Maybe someone should take manager Harry Redknapp's temperature. He must be unwell.
Part of the reason for Tottenham and Redknapp's comparative lack of action during this transfer window is the fact that, in case you hadn't noticed, they are doing rather well at the moment. They are playing some of the most exciting football in the country and could go second in the table this weekend if they win at leaders Manchester City and Arsenal beat Manchester United at the Emirates.
Still, despite Spurs being a seemingly settled and happy side, there has still been some transfer talk generated over the past few days.
Luka Modric/Fernando Torres
1 of 6Let's start with one of the more fanciful stories involving Spurs this week.
Luka Modric was a serious target for Chelsea in the summer, so much so that the Croatian even stated his desire to leave, though he stopped short of actually handing in a transfer request.
Emmanuel Adebayor had been performing well at the apex of the Spurs attack this season, but the Londoners could really do with another high-calibre centre-forward in their squad.
Put two and two together and you get reports of a swap deal involving Modric and misfiring Chelsea striker Fernando Torres this month.
When questioned on this, Redknapp was emphatic in his denial. He said:
""No I have never heard that one. I think Torres is starting to look the player that we all know he can be, the player he was at Liverpool—he is a top player no doubt that about it. But there is no way he is coming to Tottenham and no swap deal in the offing for Luka Modric, I think they will get the best out of him.”

Loic Remy
2 of 6Back in the real world, and the Marseille striker is one player that Redknapp is definitely interested in buying.
The Spurs boss flew out to France after Tottenham's 1-1 draw with Wolves on Saturday and saw 25-year-old forward Remy score both goals in a 2-0 win over Ligue 1 champions Lille.
However, Remy has since ruled out the possibility of a January move. He said: "It is nice, it means some clubs have shown interest, but it has already been sorted out with the chairman and the coach—it is out of the question to leave now."
However, the groundwork may have been laid for a serious summer bid from Spurs.
Jermain Defoe
3 of 6If Tottenham are to pay the reported £22 million that Remy will cost, they may have to raise the money by selling someone else.
Step forward, Jermain Defoe, the England striker with designs on a place at Euro 2012, but who has started fewer than half of Spurs' league games this season.
One report claims that Liverpool are willing to pay £10 million for the 29-year-old forward, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants at least twice that.
Chris Samba
4 of 6For the second time since Venky's took over at Blackburn and replaced Sam Allardyce with Steve Kean as manager, the big Congolese centre-back is involved in transfer talks.
Samba has handed in a transfer request, which Rovers have refused, but that has not stopped London rivals Tottenham and QPR heading the list of clubs waiting to snap up Samba.
With Michael Dawson, William Gallas and Ledley King all suffering injury problems this season, Redknapp may be tempted to add a fifth high-quality defender to his squad with a potential title fight and Champions League campaign on the horizon.
Junior Hoilett
5 of 6A second Tottenham target from Ewood Park, his fate seems linked to that of Samba's.
The exciting young Canadian forward has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane ever since he began catching the eye at Blackburn.
However, his father and agent David believes that Rovers will not countenance selling both players this month with a relegation fight still very much the priority.
He said:
""It may not be within [Blackburn's] best interests to off-load him considering what is going on with Samba at the moment. I can't really see them letting both of them go at the same time and with Junior's contract ending at the end of the year, the value they could get for Junior would be less than what they would get for Samba."

Yago Falque
6 of 6No sooner had Tottenham completed the purchase of the 20-year-old attacker from Juventus after he had spent the first half of the season at White Hart Lane on loan than they lent him out to Championship leaders Southampton for the rest of the campaign.
The diminutive 22-year-old, who never made a senior appearance for the Bianconeri, will likely see a lot more game time in the second tier with the Saints than in the four cup appearances he made for Spurs so far.
