L.A. Lakers: Kobe Bryant Needs Help to Bring Another NBA Title to Los Angeles

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

If the Lakers had any doubts about going all-in to win a championship this season, then Kobe Bryant's scintillating early season better have erased them.

The Mamba has been as dominant as ever. He is carrying this team on legs that look as fresh as they have since No. 24 was No. 8.

The Black Mamba has been absolutely amazing early this season.

And he certainly isn't slowing down.

This blistering week has raised Kobe to an average of 32 points a game for the season. He is also shooting a solid 46.4 percent from the field.

Without a real point guard, Kobe plays with the ball in his hand most of the game, and while he is certainly taking most of the shots, the other Lakers scorers are getting their looks, too.

Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol are both averaging 12.7 shots and 16.4 points per game.

While some will worry that Kobe will wear down as the season goes on, this shouldn't be a big concern. The compacted schedule will add some stress to the body, but the fewer games will more than equal that out.

Kobe is playing at a high enough level to lead this team to a championship.

Now, he just needs a little help.

The Lakers Need to Make a Move

This Laker team is not good enough to win a championship. Kobe simply doesn't have enough help. They desperately need a legitimate point guard and could use some added scoring pop from the bench.

A real point guard will help ease the burden on Kobe and leave him fresh to dominate when the Lakers need him most.

It would also dramatically improve the Lakers when Kobe is not on the floor. The Lakers have a hard time utilizing their talented big men when Kobe is not on the floor because there is no one on the perimeter who can break down a defense and get them the ball in a solid position to score.

While the Lakers can still continue to pursue their blockbuster and try landing Dwight Howard, they now need to also consider a move on a smaller scale for a point guard.

The Lakers have a trade exception and a couple of young players they could offer to teams who are looking to clear cap space before the deadline approaches. Whichever route they take, they need to make sure they land someone to better this team.

Kobe Bryant is playing to good for them not to.
