Texas Football Recruiting 2012: Top 3 Must-Have Recruits the Longhorns Are After
With the college football season over, these next few months will be focused completely on recruiting. If teams didn't do as well as they had hoped, they can make the future much brighter by landing a few top recruits.
Texas has had a couple of down seasons the last two years, but always recruit well. This year is no different, as they have a top class once again. But in recruiting you never settle for what you have; you can always do better and get a few more quality players.
With a loaded team returning and a good class coming in, here are three more prospects that the Longhorns can't let slip through the cracks.
OT Arik Armstead
1 of 3Armstead is a 6'8", 275-pound beast that has great size, explosion and has great control of the defenders in front of him. Armstead looks and plays exactly like a great tackle is supposed to.
However, he wants to play on the defensive line when he gets to college.
It's not the Longhorns if they're not playing smash-mouth defense. Armstead could really help contribute to getting them on the right track.
He's already removed USC and UCLA from the picture. He's looking at Texas, along with Notre Dame, Cal, Oregon and Auburn.
DE Mario Edwards
2 of 3What better way to build your defense up than to land the top-rated player in the state of Texas? Defensive end Mario Edwards is really quick for somebody who is 6'4'', 291 pounds. He's extremely strong, plays the game with a lot of emotion and makes a lot of plays in the backfield as he's fantastic against the run.
Edwards originally committed to Florida State, but backed out as he wanted to explore more of his options. Texas is one of the schools he recently visited, along with LSU and Oklahoma. It's also important to know that the Seminoles are not of of the running either.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham
3 of 3Is there any school in the country that wouldn't want this guy? Green-Beckham is a wide receiver that's 6'6", 220 pounds. He's the ultimate deep threat with that size and speed and can go up and get the football with the best of them. He's a tough cover for anybody and could really make any quarterback look good.
Texas already has landed a great wide receiver in Cayleb Jones, but you can never have too many 5-star wide receivers.
Green-Beckham is showing a lot of interest in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas, but Texas of course is still in the race as well.
