Pacquiao vs. Mayweather: Bob Arum Gives Money Saturday Deadline for May Fight
The most anticipated boxing match ever is looking like it could actually go down, as Bob Arum has set a deadline for Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. to make a final decision on a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao.
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Arum has made it clear that Mayweather has until this Saturday to get the ball rolling for a fight in late May of this year.
What Does it Mean?
Finally, it looks as though the boxing world will get the fight its been craving for years now.
Pacquiao and Mayweather have been going back and forth, and when it appeared as though the fight would never happen, the talks are heating up, and it's time Mayweather comes through so this match can occur.
Arum is proposing a 50-50 deal, but if Mayweather doesn't budge, the fight boxing fans have long desired likely won't happen.
Putting pressure on Mayweather by forcing a short deadline is a risky move by Arum, but the fans are surely hoping it pays off.
What Happens Next?
Mayweather had better deliver on his call outs and agree to Arum's new proposal. If he doesn't, then the boxing world will likely never see these two aging boxers fight.
Arum has guaranteed Pacquiao's 50 percent, so now someone must do the same for Mayweather. Pretty Boy Floyd is scheduled to fight at the MGM Grand on May 5, and Arum has agreed to have the fight there as opposed to outdoors, but only in late May.
Sure, a fight between Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez would still be entertaining, but it's not what people really want to see.
This super fight been hyped for so long, and since it's so close to getting down, all parties involved have to do the right thing and give the people what they want.
