NFL Playoffs 2012: 5 Bold Predictions for Why Broncos Will Shock the Patriots
The Denver Broncos not only have a good shot to keep things close against the New England Patriots, they will be winning out right.
The vast majority of experts were shocked that the Pittsburgh Steelers could lose to an 8-8 team and nobody has learned their lesson. The spread in Vegas currently varies from 12-14 points.
Blasphemy.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Here are five reasons why the Broncos shock the Pats:
1. One Tebow One Time
Tim Tebow finally “pulled the trigger” in the passing game like John Elway asked and the results were 316 yards, two touchdowns and a career day.
Now that the Pats must incorporate the pass much more into their game plan, the running game is going to churn out plenty of big gains.
Remember: Denver ran for 167 yards in the first quarter of their first matchup. Tebow’s versatility as a runner and his new-found passing ability are going to be a nightmare to game plan for.
2. Broncos Pass Rush
In the 41-23 loss in December, sensational rookie linebacker Von Miller was a shell of his former self as he was dealing with a broken thumb.
While not 100 percent healthy, Miller is back to his ferocious ways as evident by his two tackles for a loss, a sack and a QB hit in last week’s win. He looked as healthy as he’s been in six weeks.
Combine Miller with Elvis Dumervil, the other half of the “Doom and Gloom” nickname given to them, who is playing like a Pro Bowler again and the duo will be giving Brady fits.
You can’t stop Tom Terrific, but putting consistent pressure on him will really disrupt a passing attack that often takes a while to develop. Flushing him from the pocket is essential.
Don’t forget that former Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins is expected to play. He is a deadly pass rusher on the blitz as well.
3. Patriots' Lack of a Run Game
We all know about the second-ranked pass offense, but nobody is talking about the 20th-ranked rushing attack that averaged 110.3 yards per game.
The combination of inconsistent O-line play and mediocre talent at running back means you never know what to expect on a week-to-week basis. If they can’t move the chains, that much more pressure falls on Brady’s shoulders.
The Patriots have to bring a balanced offensive attack against a defense beaming with confidence.
4. Pats' Pass Defense
There’s no way to sugarcoat it, this is one of the worst units in the entire NFL. They finished the regular season 31st in pass defense (293.9 YPG). They let Matt Moore throw for 281. They let Ryan Fitzpatrick throw for over 296 twice. This isn’t early in the season either; this was their last two opponents.
They even allowed 194 yards to Tebow the first time around, previously one of his best games to date. No. 15 will be able to exploit Devin McCourty and Kyle Arrington regularly if they don’t respect the deep ball.
With a Pats' pass rush that is less than stellar, the Broncos are going to score at least three touchdowns.
5. Broncos Playing With House Money
Tebow did his job. He had a career day against the No. 1 defense in the playoffs. There is no doubt who will be the starter for 2012.
After a 1-4 start and whispers of drafting Andrew Luck, the expectations couldn’t be lower in Denver. Now with a home playoff win under their belts, everything from here is gravy. Nobody will be angry if they lose. The pressure is off.
The Pats' window of opportunity is slowly closing and they haven’t won a playoff game since 2007. The pressure on Brady’s shoulders is colossal.
I don’t buy a team being “hot,” but I do buy pressure making even the best players crack.
With a horrific defense and a limited amount of opportunities due to a poor run game, expect Brady to make a critical mistake that will haunt him for the entire offseason.
