NFL Playoff Picks: Full Predictions for Divisional Round of Playoffs

Ryan PhillipsJan 11, 2012

The Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs kicks off this Saturday and all four games should be outstanding matchups.

Here is a look at this weekend's games and how I think they will turn out.

New Orleans Saints (14-3) at San Francisco 49ers (13-3)

In what will undoubtedly be an epic clash of styles, the Saints and their wide-open offense will face the 49ers and their powerful running game and defense.

In the opening round of the playoffs, New Orleans smoked the Detroit Lions, 45-28, and quarterback Drew Brees threw for 466 yards and three touchdowns. That was the Saints' ninth-straight win and right now I just can't see them losing. Brees and his offense are just too locked in right now and the 49ers won't be able to shut New Orleans down.

Denver Broncos (9-8) at New England Patriots (13-3)

Tim Tebow's performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Denver's 29-23 overtime win on Sunday has everyone buzzing, but the New England Patriots present a much more formidable challenge. Entering Saturday's game, the Patriots have won eight straight games and are favored to make it nine.

When the two teams matched up in Week 15, Tom Brady and New England came away with a 41-23 win. This weekend I really don't expect the end result to be any different.

Tebow can pull off magic at the ends of games, but for that to happen, the Broncos' defense will have to keep things close. I just can't see that happening against the Patriots.

Houston Texans (11-6) at Baltimore Ravens (12-4)

The Ravens and Texans both rely on their outstanding running games and stout defenses to win games. In what should be a smash-mouth, grind-it-out game, I expect a low-scoring, hard-hitting affair.

When breaking down teams that are mirror images of each other, I typically lean towards the squad with a better quarterback. Neither T.J. Yates nor Joe Flacco has been stellar this season, but I'll give Flacco the edge because of his experience.

Baltimore 17, Houston 14

New York Giants (10-7) at Green Bay Packers (15-1)

In Week 13, these two teams faced off at MetLife Stadium and the Packers came away with a 38-35 win in what was an outstanding game. Since then, the Giants have defied the odds to reach the postseason, and dominated the Atlanta Falcons 24-2 in the Wild Card Round.

While that has been impressive, the Green Bay Packers have won 21 of their last 22 games and quarterback Aaron Rodgers may have just turned in the best regular season by a quarterback in NFL history. Playing at Lambeau Field, I expect the Packers to cruise to a win.
