Nebraska Football Recruiting: Video Highlights of 2012 Recruits
The 2011 season for Nebraska has came to an end and now it is time to look forward to the 2012 season. Nebraska will have a year of experience playing in the Big Ten Conference, but the Cornhuskers will lose some key players from their team.
On offense Nebraska will lose WR Brandon Kinnie, FB Tyler Legate, OL Mike Caputo, OL Jermarcus Hardrick and OL Marcel Jones.
On defense Nebraska will lose DT Jared Crick, DT Terrance Moore, LB Lavonte David, S Austin Cassidy and CB Alfonzo Dennard.
Most of these players played a significant role on Nebraska’s team in 2011. Replacing these players will not be an easy task for head coach Bo Pelini.
Nebraska has a good recruiting class scheduled to come to Nebraska for the 2012 season. According to Rivals.com, Nebraska’s recruiting class ranks No. 36 nationally. Nebraska has not finalized its recruiting process for the upcoming recruiting class, so I suspect the No. 36 ranking will increase for the Cornhuskers.
Let me be the first to introduce you to some of the new recruits Nebraska is expected to sign before the national signing day…
CB Mohammed Seisay
1 of 6Eastern Arizona Junior College, California: 4-star recruit by Rivals.com
I would not be surprised if Mohammad Seisay started for the Cornhuskers at the cornerback position opposite Andrew Green. He is just that talented.
Seisay’s decision came down to Arkansas and Nebraska. He made it official and signed with the Cornhuskers.
LB Zaire Anderson
2 of 6Riverside Community College, California: 4-star recruit by Rivals.com
Zaire Anderson will help fill the void in the linebacker position left with the departure of All-American LB Lavonte David. Those are huge shoes to fill. Hopefully Anderson can make it to Nebraska before spring practice to give him an opportunity to learn Pelini’s defense.
QB Tommy Armstrong
3 of 6Steele High School, Texas: 3-star recruit by Rivals.com
Will Tommy Armstrong be allowed to compete for the Cornhuskers starting quarterback position? I hope so.
I do not have anything against Nebraska’s starting quarterback, Taylor Martinez. I just think competition is good for a program. On film Armstrong looks very good, but that is against high school talent. I am excited to see how good he is against college talent.
Maybe a new Touch Tommy will begin his career at Nebraska.
DE Greg McMullen
4 of 6Hoban High School, Ohio: 4-star recruit by Rivals.com
Nebraska will have their two starting defensive ends in 2012 (Cameron Meredith and Eric Martin). It never hurts to have some depth. Greg McMullen could provide Nebraska some much-needed depth to their defensive line in 2012.
The major reason for Nebraska’s 9-4 season had to do with their inability to generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Nebraska will have to find a combination of players to solve this problem. Maybe McMullen can fill that void.
OL Paul Thurston
5 of 6Arvada West High School, Colorado: 4-star recruit by Rivals.com
(He is No. 71 in the video)
I do not expect Paul Thurston to come into Nebraska’s program and start right away, but I do think he will be a player Nebraska will be glad they recruited in the future.
Nebraska will need some depth on the offensive line with three players graduating this season (Mike Caputo, Jermarcus Hardick, Marcel Jones).
WR Jordan Westerkamp
6 of 6Montini High School, Illinois: 4-star recruit by Rivals.com
Jordan Westerkamp scared Cornhusker fans when he said he was going to visit Notre Dame. After the visit to Notre Dame, Westerkamp assured the Nebraska coaching staff that he is still committed to the Cornhuskers. That is great news for Nebraska fans.
Nebraska’s program needs playmakers and Westerkamp is a playmaker.
Westerkamp was the Illinois High School Football Player of the Year in 2011. He is the Illinois all-time leading receiver in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Westerkamp was named to the USA Today All-American First Team in 2011.
